Enabling “extra” keyboard layouts from base.extras.xml & evdev.extras.xml under XFCE
cn flag

In addition to the keyboard layouts which by default can be selected in the xfce4-keyboard-settings app, there are many listed in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.extras.xml and /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/exdev.extras.xml, which are not available for me to select. How can I enable them under XFCE?

On a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04, when the mouse cursor touches the bottom two-thirds of the right edge of the screen, it jumps up to a different position about one third of the distance from the top of the screen.

The behavior seems to match another Ask Ubuntu topic here: Strange mouse pointer behavior along right edge of screen Ubuntu 19.10 The solution mentioned in that topic was to make edits to th ...

I just noticed that the repo http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/

For years, the way that Google Chrome was updated on Ubuntu was via the repository http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ As of now when I visit this URL I get a 404. Yet somehow Chrome appears to be at the latest version. Is Chrome being updated in some new way, perhaps by updating itself? Or is it blocking access via browser and wget?

Wifi issues on "Killer WiFi 6E AX1675 (2x2)" Ubuntu 21.10
sj flag

I'm using an MSI e16 summit flip laptop (A11UCT) with a "Killer WiFi 6E AX1675 (2x2)" adapter. The problem I am having is that the wifi will work fine for a few minutes getting full speeds of 150 Mbps and then will slow down drastically to 1 Mbps and eventually just stop working all together. This can be fixed by just turning the wifi on and off but will eventually stop working.

How does appstream work and how to implement it?
ph flag

I'm maintaining a GUI app and releasing it via a PPA.

I already read Metadata quick start for appstream and I think I added it to my project correctly.

The point is I don't get how it's working. First I expected when opening my locally built deb file via GNOME Software, it displays the info from that file, but that's not happening and it seems logical; because I already know that the file can't be read ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
