Good day

I'm using msmtp to send mails. I have different accounts that log to different logfiles. Unfortunately whenever it tries to log the following error appears:

I tried the following:

  • change owner/group of the file
  • tried 777 on the logfiles

Where are desktop icons stored for apps installed from Ubuntu Software?
id flag

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04. Every guide on how to create desktop icons says "go to usr > share > applications", but if the app was installed from Ubuntu Software there's no icon in that folder, so where are they stored? What are all the other directories where they can be stored usually?

Any way to monitor the resources of my system over time?
in flag

Let's say I want to know how much RAM and how much CPU I consumed after an hour of having the system started, but I don't want to have top opened and be looking at it all the time.

I want a program that can write the resource usage to some kind of graph so I can look at it and see which resources I have been using at what time. I don't need it to be CLI, maybe a web app or a docker...

ISO Ubuntu image for Dell Vostro 15 3510
jp flag

I bought a new Dell laptop recently with Ubuntu pre-installed. I thought that I could install any distro on it so I went ahead and installed my favourite - Zorin (stupidly over-writing the recovery partition). However, I noticed that the sound wasn't as good anymore (less bass) as it was with the preinstalled Ubuntu.

It now appears that I seemingly can't just install any distro on this machine an ...

AAC Bluetooth Audio on recent (21.10+) versions (Pulseaudio 15+)
br flag

Previous to 21.10, I was using the additional pulseaudio-modules-bt to get AAC audio on my bluetooth headphones instead of SBC. This seems to be broken with 21.10, (I can build and install, but I don't end up with any PulseAudio AAC profiles). I've also tried building PulseAudio from master which doesn't give me the option for AAC either (even though AAC support has been merged to master). Is there anot ...

Skype not listed in Startup Applications
za flag

I checked similar questions and didn't see anybody having the same problem. Skype launches every time on startup. I wanted to stop doing it.

The most obvious solution didn't work in my case, which was to go to Startup Applications and Remove it from there. But Skype is not listed in startup apps. I have even set Startup App-s to display hidden applications. So my question is why it is like that? Is it a ...

Ubuntu Backups - Deja-Dup - Storage Location Not Available - Samba - Ubuntu 20.04.3

I've setup a Samba share server that 50+ people use for Backups, some on macOS but mostly on Ubuntu using the native Backups application and it worked perfectly for +6 months.

But now the Ubuntu Backups application can't connect to it, even though I can map to Samba Shares on the same server and Read/Write files using the normal Ubuntu GUI (Nautilus/Files).

I can also mount it using the below:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
