kde 5.24 - overview launch key
ae flag

I just upgraded my KDE Plasma to 5.24 using an ubuntu ppa. I love the overview function. Right now it launches from Meta-W . How do I get it to launch from Meta alone?

When I try to change the key binding I type the Meta key and the settings screen wants another key. It is as if the Meta key were only a Shift key, and cannot be used alone.

Thanks.

Home directory for user nobody - Ubuntu 20.04
in flag

I see a difference in the behaviour of the user "nobody" between Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04.

In both (18.04 and 20.04) versions, the user nobody is configured as:

nobody:x:65534:65534:nobody:/nonexistent:/usr/sbin/nologin

In 18.04, for crontab applications, the home directory for nobody will be defined as HOME=/. In 20.04, crontab applications will report the home directory for nobody as non existe ...

Usb web camera failing while in use

I have had a Logitech c920 that has worked fine for a long time. Recently, after a routine upgrade I started seeing failures during video calls where the camera would darken, flicker and finally drop from the detected hardware.

I've tried upgrading my kernel:

Evaluate string ```$((expression))```-like and save in a variable
in flag

This will sound pretty awkward for some of you. Suppose I have a string which represents some $((expression)), arithmetic expression mathematical like '$((1+1))'. I wish to perform it and deliver its result to a variable.

Example:

$ expression='$((5+5))'
$ echo $expression
'$((5+5))'

$ # Expected result: 10

How can I evaluate that string and store its result?

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu and I'm attempting to create a Plex Server, I've done the install but I cannot mount my NAS?!?!.. I've decided to log into a Mint VM and to use the command line to try to identify the problem. Subsequently I was unsucessful and I'm now attempting it on my actual text based installation of Ubuntu Server VM.

Looks like a simple directory/file syntax error as it's saying the di ...

Where are logs stored when connecting (or failing to do so) to a file server?
kg flag

I have a user running Ubuntu. When they are in the office, connected directly to the local network, they are unable to connect to a file server just down the hall from there office. To do so, he must connect first connect to our company's VPN. I'd like to find the logs for this connection attempt to hopefully shine light on what's causing this issue.

Boot delay due to touchpad
cn flag

After I changed my Notebook's processor from T4500 to T9300, the Lubuntu 20.04 delays at boot-up due to the two last lines I marked in the photo. At first it looses ~8 sec. on PS/2 touchpad, then ~ 8 sec. on ata1 device. This problem happens not every time, but mostly when I reboot the system. At the cold startup most of the time the problem doesn't appear.

What could be the problem? Notebook mod ...

Can we tell a program to always put the window in the same place?
my flag

Is there a way to have Ubuntu remember where I put a particular program window? I see that this was asked several times a decade ago, but I cannot find this answered since 2012 here, at which time the answer included "For 11.04 and earlier". I'm not asking for programs to be auto-started. I'm merely asking that, when I open Calculator, the window goes to the side where I want it instead of being ri ...

How to configure onedrive to sync Business shared folders

I'm quite new to Linux, and have been trying this client to sync OneDrive files. It initially works for personal files, but not for shared folders. I believe I need to configure this functionality as per

However, I find this step hard to understand:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
