how (during fresh install) to make the boot partition at least twice its normal size
fr flag

I've had occasion to run out of space and not been able to update (it was from 21.04 to 21.10) ... I scrambled around, removed snaphots and anything else I could think of and created the needed room on boot. But during that scramble I googled fairly extensively about making boot partition bigger and found quite a few others who hit the same problem.

I'd like to just circumvent the whole thing by ...

I have had Ubuntu 20.04 running solidly for 12 months and I recently tried to cleanup some (what I thought were) unwanted services. From Stacer I changed the Console getty service settings (can't recall if I started or stopped or disabled...?) and now I get the following behavior:

On boot, the Gnome graphical login screen appears for about 2 seconds, then the text based tty console appears. I ca ...

Need to restart machine after letting it sleep

I am running Ubuntu 20.0.4 LTS on a new Razer PC. I followed the instructions from the Ubuntu website to install Ubuntu from a bootable USB flash drive. My machine has 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of disk space.

Whenever I leave my machine unattended for any meaningful (>1hr) period of time and it goes to sleep, when I open it back it is unresponsive and I have to restart it. I do not have this pro ...

Login screen in xRDP from Windows does not accept in password

I connect via xRDP from Win 10 to Ubuntu 20.04.3. After entering the password in the xRDP connection screen, I get the gnome session login screen. I enter the password and I can work ok. If the session locks due to timeout, next time I get the login screen it is insensitive to the keyboard so nothing happens when I hit <enter> in the password field. So I cannot use my remote session anymore.

Permission Denied ... can't browse and attach files to apps from 2nd drive

Hoping someone can help, I've browsed the internet endlessly and can't find a solution.

I have 2 internal hard drives, the 2nd which does not have Ubuntu installed, is registered as a "removable drive" (named "StorageX" by me). I have made sure is is automatically mounted, and it IS instantly accessible via file managers and certain apps.

However, the big problem is, with many other apps, such as em ...

KWin lags severely after closing an OpenGL program, but only with external monitor connected
bo flag

When my external monitor is connected (HDMI) to my laptop and I close an OpenGL program, all my desktop windows lag and appear to only refresh about once every two seconds. I've looked around and found one or two accounts of this happening with an Nvidia graphics processor, but mine is Intel so I can't try their suggested solutions.

This only happens when the second monitor is connected, and I ca ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
