Can't open Ubuntu software in Ubuntu 20.04 (ERROR: not connected to the gnome-3-38-2004 content interface)
ug flag

this morning I realized that I cannot open Ubuntu Software. When I click on it the pointer indicates that is loading but the program never opens. If I run snap-store from a terminal I get (If I understand correctly Ubuntu software corresponds to the Snap store on 20.04)

ERROR: not connected to the gnome-3-38-2004 content interface.

Maybe the following could be useful

How to fix SD card that keeps disconnecting and reconnecting?
in flag

I have an old iMac 2013 with Intel® Core™ i5-4570S CPU @ 2.90GHz × 4 running UBUNTU 21.04

Doesn't matter if I connect the SD cards (all of them) in the built in SD card reader or if I use an USB card reader, the problem is very similar. The card connect and disconnect randomly. Normally, on the built-in reader, it can stay on may be a minute or two every time. On the USB card reader it may  ...

Can a virus be installed just by downloading a file?
in flag

Let´s assume that I programmatically download a malicious file, e.g. using wget, and try to import in e.g. R or Python as a text file. If it fails, I delete it using rm. There is any chance that my Linux system gets infected?

Login screen disappears after rebooting

I'm currently running Ubuntu Studio 21.10 on a 2019 Dell desktop. I upgraded Ubuntu Studio from 21.04 to 21.10 using the command line. I have a login screen that I created after modifying an Ubuntu Studio login screen. I have a 5 second timeout for the BIOS and for the grub screen. Logins were fine until about 2 weeks ago, when I found that the boot would proceed apparently normally (with the BIOS a ...

We use a debug device connected to USB but we can't get bidirectional communication

We use Totalphase Cheetah devices to program SPI parts on end-point devices, however, the Cheetah device won't communicate yielding "ERROR: Unable to find any Cheetah Adapters! How to determine the “latest” kernel version for Ubuntu 20.04?
in flag

I am trying to build an automated process to compile a kernel driver, so as new kernels become available, the process can automatically install new kernel headers and build the driver against those.

The driver will eventually run on a machine with Ubuntu 20.04 Server LTS.

One thing I am stuck on is how to determine when new headers are available.

If the build server is also Ubuntu 20.04 Server, then I  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
