Prompt disappearing and bugging out in TTY
gh flag

I just installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, I will mostly use it without GUI so I set GRUB to boot into TTY. I have noticed an issue with it though, the prompt user@host:~$ seems to behave a bit strange some of the time, sometimes it disappears all together, sometimes the text stays there but the cursor (blinking _) goes back to the beginning of the screen and the typed text replaces the "ghost" text, I was able  ...

Having Issues with Ubuntu Installation on Lenovo Ideapad 5i Pro

I bought the laptop a few days ago without an operating system. Since then I tried to install Ubuntu and was challenged with several errors. I used 'Rufus' to create UEFI and BIOS/UEFI bootable USB, and every time I selected Ubuntu to be installed, the computer showed the following errors, in the corresponding order:

Change gnome-tweaks scaling factor in the terminal?
us flag

I change the scaling factor often when I switch between laptop (1.4 to be able to see everything better) and laptop with second screen (back to 1.0)

The fastest way I've managed to do this now with as little mouse use as possible is opening gnome-tweaks through the command line, but then I have to go to fonts, and type the desired value there

Is there any command I could use that I could turn into a ...

I see lots of questions and answers regarding dual boot but all relating to UEFI...

I've just installed Ubuntu 20.04 over Win 10 with MBR partitioning and Legacy bios. (I've used Rufus to create installation with settings set accordingly).

I've tested Ubuntu and it worked okay, so I installed it. However, after restart it starts straight into Windows 10. I've disabled Hibernation and Fast-start but  ...

Unable to click ALT+TAB programmatically ubuntu 21.04
jp flag

I'm trying to understand why I am no longer able to perform alt-tab and other manipulations programmatically on Ubuntu 21.04. I guess this functionality won't work at all. Did something change from a security perspective? I'm using Kernel 5.11.0.40-generic.

KVM guest sporadically fail to boot - no error messages
co flag

I've a KVM booting problem that appears different to the others I can find described online.

I have a guest that fails to boot every few days. No combination of destroy or restarting libvirtd services can make it boot, I have to reboot the entire host and then it's luck again as to whether the guest will boot.

I'd say roughly 75% of the time the guest boots successfully.

Is it possible to downgrade kernel on Ubuntu 21.10 to something lower then 5.13x?
ug flag

When I type apt-cache search linux-generic it gives me list of 5.13x only. Does it mean that I can't downgrade to something like 5.4? By the way on some linux distro I've seen a GUI utility to deal with kernel versions (Manjaro probably), as I got it there is no such on Ubuntu, at least currently.

Some time ago I plugged a second Graphic Card to try passthrough to a VM.

I forgot it inside my system because I never finished my tests and recently I try to remove it but the system didn't start any more.

I found several articles about that issue but with different folder structures and solution that could damage my system. I can not afford to let something like that to happen right now.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
