How can I clean my Ubuntu USB installation key after installation?
in flag

Last month, I installed Ubuntu from a USB key. The key has a large capacity and a ton of other files and directories from various apps. But every time I reboot my computer with the key in it, it goes to the installer again, so I want to get rid of the Ubuntu installer that is present on that key, but I don't know which files and directories are related to Ubuntu and those linked to other apps I used.

Port forwarding Headless VM in a VM
cn flag

At the moment I work on a Project, where I have to setup a Headless VM with VirtualBox within an Ubuntu VM. I want access the headless VM from outside with a Remote Desktop connection.

For accessing the VirtualBox VM I need to forward localhost:3389 to my network adapter 139.6.56.238.

I tried using iptables but maybe with the wrong command.

sudo iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -s 127.0.0.1 -p tcp --dport 3 ...

Configure a local area network for laptops and(or) raspberry
cn flag
HHL

I have a ubuntu laptop and raspberry pi and router. Would it be possible to create a local area network to connect them. There is no need to connect to the internet but have to ensure laptop and raspberry can connect each other like using ssh.

Looks like creating a local area network. But quit suspect and confused if it is possible. If it is, can share me how to do it?

Thanks a lot.

/media directory became root owned after upgrade to 21.10
ng flag

I upgraded my Ubuntu to 21.10 yesterday but now I've noticed that when I try to go into /media/My Passport , I get "Permission Denied". I think this is because my directory became owned by root during the upgrade process. Or, if it always owned by root and never changed, then I was atleast able to cd into it previously. Unfortunately, now, I get:

/media/markleeds> cd 'My Passport'

curl hangs and does nothing
cn flag

I have specific domain, that can be accessed from everywhere. When I do this on other PC it works:

curl -v mydomain.com

But when I do the same from my PC it just hangs infinitely. No errors, just nothing. Also domain is resolved and it's okay, I can access it from browser also. If curl -v google.com it works! Also in C++ CURL returns 0 HTTP response code without any errors. Why does this happens?

Can't upgrade raid 1 array from 256GB to 2TB disks
ru flag

I am running ubuntu 20.04 with 2 256GB Samsung EVO SSD disks connected via USB3 SATA adaptors. They are configured as raid 1. The array does not contain the operating system, but contains a number of logical partition that are used as LUNS with targetcli. Everything is working fine but I am out of space.

I have now purchased 2 2TB Samsung EVO SSD disks. The same disks but bigger. However my raid  ...

Search function annoyance wth Nemo
us flag

Running Ubuntu 20 with Nemo Files 4.4. When I search a folder I get around 3 or 4 characters in and another search function comes on that copies what I have typed and starts searching the whole computer in a new field at the bottom of the window. This is a real pain. I believe it is related to a new "feature" where random typing automatically activates a search engine?

Can this be turned off.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
