Have installed Kubuntu 20.04 on a new hard drive and before that have made a copy of the old home partition by cp /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb3. Whereby sdb3 was the new home partition on the new 1TB hard drive (now sda3).
At the installation of Kubuntu 20.04 I mounted sda3 as /home which is working fine (the old system was Kubuntu 18.04).

On the old drive the home partition was about 80GB, the new one has 32 ...

Upon switching back to NVidia I was asked for a secure boot password. When restarting the system (in the MOK window) I choose to co ...

How to find source of desktop notification in ubuntu?
kr flag

I find desktop notifications useful, as information from number of services gets pushed right in front of my face. However recently I must have installed something unwanted, because these began to appear regularly:

notification that reeks

another notification

Thing is, I don't even have antivirus installed and the notification annoys me at this point. I want to pinpoint its source and delete it. I tried searching /var/log/*log files for  ...

An image of my keyboard

I'm using ubuntu 21.04 on my acer laptop with all software up-to-date. My laptop doesn't have a numpad. But when I hold down the function key, some keys will act as numpad(as is shown in the image).

My problem is that all of a sudden when I press those buttons, they will default act as numpad, but when I press them while holding the function key, they would act normally.(e. ...

Will Komorebi use a lot of battery during its use?
za flag

I use komorebi in Ubuntu 20.04, and as it is one of the live wallpapers, I just wanted to know if it uses more of CPU and hence battery for it's operation? I had this concern as already Ubuntu is not as optimised as windows in terms of battery performance, and the last thing I want is to have yet more apps which drain battery even more. Please do clear my doubt in this matter. Thank you.

Make application runnable

I just installed Anki v2.1.49, I can run it from terminal with bin/Anki but I would like to make it runnable with Super -> Anki and set it as a shortcut (e.g. runnable from Super + 3).

I think I may have to use .desktop file. They provide one, but it doesn't seem to be recognized by Ubuntu. Here is the content of the ~/anki-2.1.49-linux file:

How to fix the battery drain during Suspend on Lenovo Ideapad3 running Ubuntu 21.10?
mk flag

Ubuntu 21.10 on Lenovo IdeaPad3 is mostly a fantastic experience. The only problem is that the battery drains 30% or more overnight when the laptop is in Suspend mode.

I have seen discussions that recommend change the Sleep mode to Hibernate, but also many warnings against doing this.

Email client with gmail, (business) office365 without imap?
vn flag

What I thought to be trivial turned out to be far from it, or at least in my experience. I have a gmail-account for my personal email and have been using that for years. For my work we have Office65-accounts, which I could add to gmail with imap/smtp. I did that in the gmail web-app and did that on my phone, worked fine. However, company policy has been updated recently to disable smtp/imap for mail; on ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
