What to do if updating Ubuntu would make it uncompatible with the system?
us flag

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 and I need an update. I intentionally installed an outdated version of Ubuntu as 16.04 seemed to be the newest one that fit my computer.

My computer is 64 bit, has 2 GB memory, 30 GB storage, dual core, maximum 2.16 mega hertz processor and is really bad. I've checked the spec requirements and it seems that the newer versions don't fit. I care a lot about performance as my  ...

Wifi and Lan access point with netplan not working. v20.04
in flag

I'm trying to build a micro-network for some IoT wired and wireless devices using a Nuc server. So the NUC has one (or two) dedicated rj45 ports for it and the main wifi interface, and the main rj45 port (enp0s25) will be the upstream to the main lan.

So far I've installed and setup Hostapd like this:

interface=wlp2s0
# bridge=br0
ssid=myssid
hw_mode=g

How can I make KRDC show a pointer instead of a tiny circle for the remote host's pointer?
in flag

I'm using KRDC 17.12.3 to operate a Mac at the far end of my table, and it works fine except that on the Linux screen the host's pointer shows up as a tiny circle - very hard to see.

The 'show local pointer' option allows me to turn the circle off, but then I have no visible pointer at all at the Linux end!

Is there a way I can force that little circle to be a normal arrow or something else that's v ...

Lost netwok connectivity

Hope someone can help me, please. I have an odd one here. I run a Debian OS with 3CX IPPBX as a virtual machine (Guest) using VirtualBox. It is running version 9 and the 3CX needs an upgrade that is dependent on the Debian being upgraded to 10. I tried in the past but it wasn't allowing the upgrade. HOWEVER, I had parked that as something to do another day.

In the meantime out of the blue I n ...

I am using the manual-connections script collection from PrivateInternetAccess on my headless Ubuntu server. I start the setup script in a service unit and need to make sure that I don't access anything outside my local network whenever Wireguard crashes.

I'm having trouble with a second screen on my laptop.

So I found a TV screen somewhere (Samsung) and tried plugging it into my laptop, it does work (as in I get an image) the only problem is that it is zoomed in to far. I'd guess that 5-10% of the screen gets cut off (at the top, bottom, right and left). I had seen some advice on similar posts about xrandr but am unable to fix it, does anyone have advic ...

Cannot lower mysql threads
it flag

I am running a LAMP stack on my ubuntu server. But it keeps running out of memory because of mysql.

It spawns 38 processes. I am failing to lower the amount of threads. I tried setting the max_connections to 4 and the thread_cache_size to 2, but still it spawns the 38 threads: ProccessList

The mysql status does show only 2 worker threads are spawned:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
