I am busy with an IoT type application that requires physical hardware that is connected through a serial port. We have opted to use the Azure IoT Edge architecture to deploy the application on the PC that exists on premise. This helps our DevOps cycle.

To use Azure IoT Edge requires that our application is containerized and thus exposing serial ports can be quite a challenge. The PC is 64-bit an ...

change input language in installer

I am trying to install lubuntu 20.04, but I had the same problem with other versions (ubuntu 20.04, and some older ones I can't remember exactly now). In the keyboard selection stage, it correctly detects my keyboard as the default Hebrew one, but if I go with this selection, I can only type in Hebrew for the rest of the installer. How can I switch between input languages during the installer? My usual  ...

MOTD display updates can be applied though none is actually available

A few days ago I upgrade my home server from ubuntu 21.04 to 21.10 using do-release-upgrade.

The install brokes during the process, but I think I was able to repair (thanks to other posts from here).

However, I have an inconsistent behavior.

The MOTD says I have 470 upgrade that can be applied immediately.

It suggest to run apt list --upgradable, but this command tell every thing is up to date.

Caps-Lock as Control no longer triggers reliably after upgrade to 20.04 (Lenovo UK keyboard layout)
in flag

Some years ago I mapped CapsLock to control to help treat a repetitive strain injury. This stopped working after updating to Ubuntu 12.04. For example, to paste in the terminal, one types shift+control+v. Before the upgrade to 20.04, this worked. Now, it enters a capital letter V.

Near as I can tell, what's happening is that shift+control is read as shift, but only when typing using CapsLock mapped ...

Do I have to upgrade my Ubuntu 18.04 to higher version?

We have been using Ubuntu 18.04 server for now and we are happy with it cause all our requirement meets in this version. Don't want to change this OS unless there is something which is important.

We have also plan to install Ubuntu 18.04 lately to other systems when its time comes as per our schedule which takes quiet some time. Will that be a problem even after Ubuntu 18.04 LTS support ends at t ...

How can I remove the DRM from PDFs so that I can read them in Google Play Books

Google Play Books is my reader app of choice for Android. I like that I can highlight and take notes, and that I have a pipeline for those notes to get them in to an Anki deck (amongst other things).

Unfortunately, some books don't allow me to highlight text, and when I zoom in, it appears to be rendering the text as an image, because it becomes pixelated. This is despite the fact that xreader  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
