Connection drops after 2 second. How to reset every service and configuration that may be causing the issue (18.04)?
de flag

I am on Ubuntu 18.04.

  • I have become unable to access internet (or better: I stop receiving data after 2 seconds from the initial connection) from all access points – both wired and wireless – of a specific network. I don't know why, since it used to work fine until some time ago.

  • It's not a DNS issue since even pinging 8.8.8.8 works only for a few seconds before deteriorating beyond usability. Al ...

How to install Ubuntu 18.04 over top of a broken 16.04 to 18.04 upgrade?
bd flag

While in the middle of an upgrade from a 16.04 server to 18.04, I inadvertently control-c'd the do-release-upgrade. This then seemed to cascade into oblivion as I attempted to apt-get dist-upgrade to fix the situation.

What is the proper way to reinstall 18.04 overtop of a broken installation such as this in order to maintain existing files (and data directories) of existing services?

I would like to test Enduro/x on my ubuntu box, using the getting started guide provided with the product

It seems that i need to increase values for kernel.msgmni, kernel.msgmax and kernel.msgmnb.

Actually Enduro/x doesn't start and complain with log messages witch let me think that this kind of tuning is necessary according to the Enduro/x admin manual.

I have customized /ect/sysctl.conf for that, bu ...

Expanding ZFS to take up free space
lb flag

I have an Ubuntu 21.10 VirtualBox VM set up with a 100GB zfs drive.

I have extended that to 500GB, because the system is a victim of its own popularity.

However, I am at a loss to growing that to fill all the free space.

Part of it is that I am not sure what I should see when I'm done. Should I still see "free space" but zfs will just magically grow into the free space, or should I see that pool (rpool ...

clinfo versus sudo clinfo

I run a program and receive an error indicating that a GPU device is not found. I guess the source of issue is below. How I can make clinfo give same result as sudo clinfo?

The result of clinfo is:

The result of sudo clinfo is:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
