I wanted to use Tilix and set it as my default terminal app in Ubuntu 21.04 with KDE 5.21 so I downloaded it and erased all the others terminal apps (Konsole, Gnome Terminal…). Then:

I installed a Live Ubuntu 20.04 with persistent storage on a USB (a). And I have been using it very well until now. However, when I tried to access another USB (b) with an encrypted partition, I got a message saying that I do not have the right authority (level) to access that partition.

Will Ubuntu Server fail to start-up if the NVIDIA drivers are broken?
us flag

It's been reported and I've personally experienced NVIDIA drivers 'randomly' breaking on ubuntu desktop after an apt upgrade, which can cause a lot of headache and fiddling around to get everything back running. Sometimes, it gets so bad that nothing seems to boot anymore.

What my question is, can the same thing happen on Ubuntu server--where there is no desktop environment, unless you install one and s ...

How to diagnose lxpanel crash (18.04)?
us flag

I have a 18.04 Ubuntu (not Lubuntu) system with LXDE installed. It's been pretty trouble-free for years (since I installed it in April 2018).

About a month ago lxpanel started crashing on the first login after a powerup. It first happened on the next reboot after an NVIDIA driver update, so at first I suspected that, but I don't think that was it any more.

Because if I then open a terminal via k ...

POST and GRUB give blank/black screen but login screen appears eventually. Nvida K600

I've changed the video card and now I'm missing the POST and GRUB output, nothing is displayed to begin with, I hear four individual beeps ~10s apart then see a flashing cursor before the screen goes black again (something I've done means I currently get blocky noise on the screen) and then displays the login GUI. It runs fine after that, but I need to get the initial low level boot output back for supp ...

List services start with specific name

I have multiple services which start with a specific name. How can I list them in Linux.

For example some thing like that, sudo systemctl --name='*NAME.'

The main reason is that I am planning to write a script which will run in the background. The point of that script is to always check the status of that services and send emails when one of them stops (service monitoring alarm) and try to restar ...

How to exchange the contents of two screens

I use two monitors: one directly in front of me and one on the right. It happens frequently that I want to move the entire content of the right screen to the center screen and vice versa. The best method I found so far is using the combination (function + shift + left/right). With this method however, I need to do it with every window.

Is there a build in function in Ubuntu or an application to a ...

Often I have this screen while doing things on my laptop: enter image description here

What is this and what does it indicate? The brightness of the screen automatically dims when this appears and can't be restored to normal, even when there is enough battery remaining. I have to restart my system every time to make it go.

This is my battery settings:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
