since upgrading from linux-image-5.11.0-46-generic to linux-image-5.13.0-25-generic (and higher) I occasionally experience keyboard freezes on my laptop.

  • Un- and re plugging in the external keyboard or even a different brand of external keyboard does not help.

HP network printer is visible, but will not connect with HPLIP, and will not print with CUPS
br flag

I'm currently running Ubuntu 21.10. I have a legacy all-in-one printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 8500). It is connected to my home router. I have its IP address, and I can connect to its embedded web server, check ink levels, etc.

I tried connecting to the device first using HP Device Manager, because I hope to configure the scanner as well as the printer. HP discovered the device on my LAN. The Dev ...

I partitioned a disk and now bios doesn't know which disk to boot from
br flag

I added another disk to my setup. I partitioned the entire disk to be ext4 with fdisk and mkfs.ext4. Now when I start the computer, it simply shows a blinking cursor.

When I remove the disk, the computer boots fine. Not sure why a newly partitioned disk would cause boot confusion.

I also have other disks I've added in the past, so I'm not sure what wouldd different.

Could it be that the new partition c ...

How to move installed software in New Kernel Version from old kernel?
cn flag

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. I cannot find my software from the older kernel version to the newer one. For example, I installed Sublime text editor in the last version but in the newer version, it's not installed. Am I doing anything wrong or this is the way kernels are meant to behave? (Yes I know sticking to the previous version could be the easy escape.)

Updated kernel:5.13.0-28-generic.

Brother printer - No suitable destination host found by cups-browsed

I just have gone through a painful migration from my 18 year old computer system to my new system. I had a great plan, but as plans tend to go, they are great until you try to implement them. Not realizing that you cannot just unplug one drive from a mirror set from non-UEFI system and just plug it into a UEFI system and expect it to work led to several hours of pain. BUT, I digress.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
