How can I check how many USB ports are available on my computer in Ubuntu?
gb flag

I am using an Xavier NX, and one of the USB ports doesn't seem to be working for the board I am using with the Xavier NX. I want to check if the ports is available as I am not seeing any devices that I connect to the USB port. Is there a way to check if the system sees the port before connecting the device? e.g., can I list available USB ports (rather than listing connected devices)?

When using apt list --manual-installed=true, it is hard to read. So, I apt list --manual-installed=true | column -t and it reads pretty good, except I do not see a header for the columns. When I say header for the columns I mean like an html table header. Is there not names for the columns. I read the man apt and no mention; and, I search the internet a long time - igu!

Why can cronjob and systemd not work together?
cn flag

I want to auto renew the certbot certificate. I came across the following auto generated file but it says:

This cronjob will NOT be executed if you are running systemd as your init system.

I am using systemd for automatically restarting some other services in case of crash/system restart. So I'm assuming that above quote applies to me.

What is the reason that the cronjob won't run when systemd i ...

Lock screen shows the wrong time (one hour later)
ms flag

Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 the lock screen is showing the wrong time, one hour later than the actual time. However, the time my system shows when it's not locked is correct, and it's set via NTP.

I'm using Gnome with gdm3 as the display manager.

My time zone is America/Chicago. I did a grep through /etc and I didn't find anything referencing another time zone.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have searched the forums but have found no solution to my problem. I am using Ubuntu 20.04 with an Android Pixel 6.

The problem is that the phone will only be recognized when plugged into one of my four USB ports. When I try lsusb on the USB-C port I see no entry for the phone. On another USB port I see an entry from lsusb but the phone mounts then dismounts and this continues in a endless loop. O ...

My goal: hierarchically in a tree of dependencies of the systemd-logind.service system.

I used commands to specify a function tree (systemctl, systemd-cgtop). Unfortunately, I did not get an answer.

I want to know what the systemd-logind.service is doing? Does not specify the commands I mentioned above.

I have 2 files that can not be sorted. Both of them have a list of words per lines. I am trying to compare both files and create a new one without any duplicate lines that get matched between both files. This means, if a line on file A is found on file B, it should not show as an output result.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
