Missing Header files in newer kernel
bd flag

I am trying to install a source package on a fresh install of 20.04 running kernel 5.13.0-28-generic. The package requires <config/modversions.h>. This package installed with no problems on 5.8.0-59-generic. I have linux-headers-5.13.0-28-generic installed, but /usr/src/linux-headers-5.13.0-28-generic/include/config only contains the names of header files in all caps without the .h, i.e. MODVER ...

How to uninstall Nautilus and its Dependencies on WSL?
in flag

I was taking a terminal course, when the teacher used Nautilus (he uses Ubuntu on his laptop), so I did too. However I use WSL and it seems I can use different commands to manage files. However, Nautilus installed a lot of dependencies I'll not use. I tried to follow this question. However, it worked with some dependencies, I still have most of them.

Can I boot with /home as readonly?

In connection to Remotely recover file from rm, I consider somehow setting up my system to intentionally boot with /home as readonly, and reboot.

Is that possible?

I am not sure about how to do it, and whether it will help me recovering the removed file, so any hints on that are also welcome.

Terminal won't display colors for non-root users
vn flag

When I'm logged in as root, I can display colors, but not when I switch to another user.

The command ls --color=auto only displays colors once when logged as normal user.

I searched a lot and did a couple things other users recommended like:

echo $TERM

which returns:

xterm-256color

I also changed the .bashrc file in /home/ubuntu as root, I uncommented the #force_color_prompt=yes line to force_c ...

I am looking for a multi-volume, indexed, seekable and appendable archive format.

  1. multi-volume = split the TB-size archive into GB-chunks
  2. indexed = add complete index at the archive end with offset information per file in the archive stream
  3. seekable = allow fast extraction of file ABC from chunk 15 and 16 with only those chunks plus the last chunk being present

My kernel is not being upgraded
eg flag

When updating/upgrading I used to get kernel updates once in a while. Now I haven't got any kernel updates since December.
I only put 0ad 0.23 on hold ( since I have 0.25 as a snap, and they both have different mods so I want both versions ).
Does anyone have an idea what is causing apt/apt-get/aptitude not to get newer kernels? I had a problem with Plymouth that messed with installing new software, b ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
