Can no longer boot into any kernel; none of them prompt to decrypt the disk
za flag

I have an Ubuntu machine that has been through several kernel upgrades. At the start of the day, I had 3 kernels installed: 5.11.0-34, 5.11.0-46, and 5.11.0-49. I had to upgrade a bunch of packages, and afterward took the opportunity to remove the middle kernel to open up room in my boot partition.

Now, I cannot get either remaining kernel to boot. Neither of them prompts for the password to decr ...

in flag

To clear this up - I added 100g on a Ubuntu 18.04 Server virtual machine. I followed some guides I found online (being newer to Linux) and was able to see and expand the disk to use the 300 total GB. However, when trying to use resize2fs the - and here's where terminology fails me - logical disk still sees 200g.

Let me add some screenshots.

what does ls / > mean?
cl flag

I found

ls / > output.txt

creates output.txt which contains names of folders inside rootfs. But I can't understand what does ls / > exactly mean. I know command ls is used to list all files in the location but what does ls / > do? I did man ls to read definition of ls / > but I couldn't find that there.

Create a script to rename a file, by first creating a filename using custom parameters from terminal
cn flag

Lets consider that the output of my every custom execution (some software in linux), gets saved in a generic filename /mydump/xyz.out. Instead of custom naming every output file, I want to write a script which does the following:-

  2. creates a filename using arguments passed eg. config1_config2xconfig3.out
  3. renames xyz.out to config1_config2xconfig3.out (mv xyz.out "config ...

vn flag

So for one of software that I want to use I need 2 Ethernet interfaces.

One will be used for internet connection (eth0, dhcp and connected to internet router), and the other for connecting to other devices (eth1, static ip). These eth interfaces will be detected during installation.

But what I have to use is a Mini PC with only one WiFi Interface and one Ethernet Port.

How to create an Ubuntu live iso that does not install os but runs a simple script
mx flag

Goal: Create an Ubuntu Server 20.04 bootable ISO that:

  • Does not install Ubuntu
  • Obtains an IP and network settings via DHCP
  • Just runs a bash script after boot
  • Drops to a shell once the script has completed

I have used cubic in the past to create custom desktop installers, but I am looking to build an iso that just runs a basic Ubuntu server with a few custom applications and a script that will run.

i'm trying to install ubuntu 21.10 on a new work station on its own SSD, (a Ryzen 9 - 16 core cpu, x570 Asus mother board, etc), and i'm seeing a very frustrating problem that only happens when I install ZFS with encryption enabled via the default installer. Frustratingly, theres no such problem with just doing zfs install without encryption.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
