Add new screen resolution | BadMatch error |ubuntu 20.04
us flag

I am using ubuntu 20.04 on my desktop. Sometimes I connect to it by remote desktop from a macbook air m1.

It is very inconvenient that the screen resolution of my ubuntu does not match that of my laptop. My laptop has a resolution of 2560x1600.

So I am trying to add a new screen resolution following this link

$ cvt 2560 1600

gives the following output

# 2560x1600 59.99 Hz (CVT 4.10MA) hsync: 99. ...

Multiple keycodes emitted for single keypress
de flag

My goal is to remap a key called sysrq on my keyboard to be Super_R.

I know I need to first find the keycode that corresponds to the physical key that is being pressed and then remap it using xmodmap -e "keycode nnn = Super_R" where nnn is the keycode found whilst running xev and pressing the physical key.

However the issue I have is that whilst running xev | grep keycode and pressing the sysrq key ...

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver -- kernel headers for 5.16.2

I'm trying setup my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro w/ Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS machine so that I can use my GPU (Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 8GB) for machine learning, for example with PyTorch. However, even after re-installing the NVidia drivers several times, it looks like it is still not visible, as running nvidia-smi gives the following:

Using Ubuntu as a network file server - options to remote in from other locations?
ua flag

I recently bought a new machine I'm planning to use as a file server. I've utilized Samba and created a share, etc - which I can access from my Windows machines on the network.

I was curious though, let's say I'm travelling for work and I'd like to remote into the server to access those files.

Should I do just a normal RDP solution, an FTP server, or is there some other more efficient/better method  ...

Screen Flicker on 20.04 with AMD CPU/ Nvidia GPU
pe flag

I am having a serious screen flicker problem on a laptop with 20.04 and Kernel 5.13.0-27-gneric. I am not sure if the problem came with the recent Kernel upgrade or a little earlier, but it started Jan 2022. The computer has an AMD 4800H CPU and an Nvidia RTX 1660 GPU. Also, I have been using NVidia drivers and I would like to use both the (currently flickering) laptop screen and an external monitor.  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
