Getting org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied error only in VScode integrated terminal - connecting ZSH with spotify
in flag

I've edited powerlevel10k ZSH theme to show songs currently played by Spotify in terminal window - works perfectly, except of VS code integrated terminal. Both Spotify and VS code are installed via Snap.

My script function extending ZSH theme (I don't believe the code is wrong, because it works perfectly outside VS code):

  function prompt_my_spotifyplayed() {

Changing key of input method in ibus
tr flag

I installed ibus and selected Marathi - itrans(m17n) as input method. It is working as expected.

apt install ibus{,-m17n,,-gtk} im-config -y

My question is how do I make a few minor changes to the keyboard? In other words, if I need something else on keystroke "l", is that possible?

Update:

I copied the following file to /usr/share/m17n/ directory.

Why is my Ubuntu 21.10 running nvim instead of vim?
ng flag

I've had 21.10 installed for a while but have noticed that 'vim --version' brings up the info for 'nvim'. Is there any reason why this is happening?

How to install xfonts on Ubuntu?
cg flag

I installed xfonts-100dpi on Ubuntu 20.04 using

apt install xfonts-100dpi

They show up in /usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi. All the files are in a *.pcf.gz format.

When I run fc-list they are not listed. If I run fc-cache -fv | grep 100dpi I get the following,

/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi: caching, new cache contents: 358 fonts, 0 dirs
/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi: skipping, looped directory detected

I would like to grant permission to a group of users to run a systemctl service that only sudo users can executable.

I put the etc/sudoers (visudo) command below and it works:

But would it be possible to pass the $USER environment variable as below?

Apache not found but exists
az flag

I set up a LAMP stack via Teddy Sun's LAMP Setup Script and when trying to restart Apache I end getting the below error:

Unit apache.service could not be found.

Obviously Apache is running, there are Process IDs for Apache in the htop, the index.html in the webroot loads correctly, and there is a valid folder structure and config file in /usr/local/apache/, so by all means Apache runs and exists.

Why aren't my applications appearing on my desktop?
ao flag

Apologies for the ignorance.... I'm transitioning as a longtime Windows user so this is very new for me. I recently installed the latest version of Ubuntu on my device and the only place I can find my applications are in show applications in the lower left-hand corner. I can see my favorites on the left, I can't seem to get my applications to populate on my desktop, how do I make this happen?

Firefox hangs in Ubuntu 20.04 but runs just fine if I open it through ssh first
in flag

I have two computers. Let me call them Local and Remote. Both have Ubuntu Mate 20.04 installed. All software on both computers is updated.

Here is a step by step explanation of the problem.

  1. I open Firefox on Local, and it runs fine.
  2. I close Firefox and open it again, and it hangs for a week. It shows up on the task bar and the title bar shows on top of the screen, and that's it.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
