How to get Six (an old KDE game program) running in Kubuntu 20.04
pm flag

Six was a gold-medal winner several times in a computer games olympiad. The source code is on GitHub https://github.com/melisgl/six/tree/master/six. It has been pinned for a couple of decades, but I would like to bring it up, however I'm not familiar with programming KDE, Qt or even C++. I'm mostly and assembly, C and Python programmer, and have been at it for about 50 years (really!).

Nevertheless, ...

USB w/Ubuntu show startup messages?
cn flag

Typically in an installed version of Ubuntu NOT on a USB but installed on a computer, it's easy to show startup messages. Is there any equivalent when using an install of Ubuntu 20.04 on a startup USB disk, i.e., the installation media of Ubutnu?

What does the output of gcc --version mean
gr flag

Here is the output of gcc --version :

./gcc --version
gcc (Ubuntu 7.5.0-3ubuntu1~18.04) 7.5.0

I understand this is version 7.5.0 but why is there the word "Ubuntu" before the version and what does "-3ubuntu1~18.04" after it means exactly in this context (gcc version)?

The manual does not really help me:

   --version
Display the version number and copyrights of the invoked GCC.

I just do apt update and apt upgrade and now I can't enter GUI mode after booting (Yes, I can enter tty1-6 via Ctrl+Alt+F2). The last uprade is about the kernel, I think. Note that this error may differ from:

After updating my Ubunut 20.04, my wifi driver is no longer detected. Previously, this was an issue upon initial install and subsequent updates, but sudo rm /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-ty-a0-gf-a0.pnvm provided an instant fix as described here: Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel 5.11.0-40-generic does not recognize intel wi-fi 6E ax210 160mhz. I want to install Dropbox under Kubuntu 21.10. The well-recognized problem is that Dropbox is integrated with the file-maintaining app Nautilus, but Nautilus doesn't play well with Kubuntu. There are many solutions on the Net, but most or maybe all of them are obsolete, a situation that confounds a Google search. kfilebox, which is available at Sourceforge,is one of them, but it has a problem wit ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
