Is there a lite version of Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi?
ng flag

I'm going to build a cluster of Pis. But before I order the SD cards, I want to know if there is a lite version of Ubuntu so that I can use smaller SD cards. Raspberry Pi OS lite is a smaller OS which just has command-line interface and ssh. No extra graphics or anything.

Do I need to use Ubuntu server? Is there anything else than Lubuntu and Xubuntu? Or can I use PI OS lite for the slave nodes w ...

Autokey Creating a Global Variable
ae flag

In autokey, how can I create a global string variable that can be used by all scripts?

You see, sometimes I need to change this string that I use in many scripts. When I do this, it is a lot of work because I have to modify that string in numerous autokey scripts. If I could create a global variable, I would be able to modify this string in one place, and it would automatically effect all scripts t ...

Where are Polkit actions documented?
am flag

How does one determine the name of a program (application) for Polkit?

In this example (a file in /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/)

[My Muon Permissions]
Identity=unix-group:sudo
Action=org.kubuntu.qaptworker3.*
ResultActive=yes

Action identifies the Muon package manager. Another action I found was org.freedesktop.packagekit.*, which seems to be the "Discover" application, if not more.

How to use fcitx in wslg on win11?
ru flag

WSLg on Windows 11 can run Linux GUI.

The writing method in Linux GUI (e.g. gedit) is different from the Windows input methods

I installed fcitx, but there are several problems:

  1. the icon doesn't show on the Windows toolbar panel, so cannot toggle different input methods by clicking icons

  2. some keyboards don't work. Wubi and Polish keyboards works, but Hebrew, Greek, and Russian are still using P ...

No audio and black video after rendering?

I am using KDENLIVE just to cut some videos and merge them together with titles. If I view the video in the project monitor it looks all good. But when I click on render, its just a black video without sound. Only the subtitle is show, so it looks like only Video 3 is rendered. However, when I move all videos to Video 3, and remove the title, then its still rendered a black video..

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
