az flag

To install the browser firefox on my system I used sudo snap install firefox. Afterwards, I installed the extension VideoDownloader, which was working fine. But by using this extension the first time I got the message Companion application required and a button to install this external application. Therefore, I did the requested installation, successfully. I started a second try to download a video. B ...

flatpak fails, seemingly entirely
be flag

EDIT (Jan 11): I found "my" workaround (with apologies that it won't help others with the same problem).

The tar.gz distro of the software I want to run works fine, out of the box, on my old Ubuntu 16.04 system (which won't run flatpak either!). Since this is not software I expect to need very often, I'm going to run it there.

Many thanks to everyone who invested their time and energy in helping me  ...

Running a Python2 program with Python3?
be flag

EDIT: Updates below, the scenery seems to have changed significantly.

I have Ubuntu 20.04, and have installed Python 3.10 manually. There's python 2 in the system already, and that's what I get if I simply execute python at a command line, rather than python3. However, I only seem to have a version of pip that is specific to python3.

I have a program that I want to run (chirp) which is written in p ...

Am I using the wrong driver or openGL renderer for Xeon E3-1200 v3 in Ubuntu 21.10? If so, where can I get the correct one?
ky flag

I am encountering crashes in a computer game that may be due to my graphics card driver not being up-to-date. I notice, moreover, that the driver might not even be for the correct hardware, which may be due to the fact that I cloned my hard drive from another computer recently.

sudo lshw gives:

Styling the split pane window in Konsole
tr flag

Konsole allows you to use style sheets to customize the Tab bar.

Is there a similar mechanism to customize the split pane window title bar? Specifically, the gray area that says ":bash" and "Close terminal".

As you can see from the screenshot, it's very difficult to distinguish which tab is currently selected, so I wanted to override the styling to make it more obvious.

Thanks!

How to change the default kernel Wi-Fi driver?
us flag

Ubuntu: 20.04.3

Kernel: 5.15.13

Motherboard: MSI Pro Z690-A WIFI (MS-7D25)

Processor: I9 12900k

Wifi 6: Intel Onboard (ax211 im not sure)

The kernel recognizes wifi and bluetooth. Neither one is doing 100% well. The bluetooth is cut or very low volume in the music. The wifi, you can hardly navigate.

Download some drivers from this official intel page: https://www.intel.la/content/www/xl/es/support/a ...

When upgrading Ubuntu I got the error "efi esp is not monuted at boot/efi"
ge flag

I have opened GParted so that I can see the installation, but I'm not sure what to do with that information. I have dual-boot Ubuntu and another Ubuntu derivative and when I try to upgrade from 20.04 to 21.04 I get this error.

I also tried to change from gnome to KDE but I'm not sure if it worked as when I sign in, it doesn't give me the option to change from gnome to KDE.

RAM in Ubuntu vs Other OS
kr flag

My brother has a Thinkpad Lenovo X220s (Quad Core i5 and 8gb RAM) and it was super slow and laggy running windows 7. So I decided to put Ubuntu on it for him and ever since then it has been running great, better than the Windows OS ever ran (he only uses the computer for general purposes). Recently, I noticed that when he is using Ubuntu he had around 7gb of ram free compared to 2 free ram gb when using ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
