I just switched from MacOs to Ubuntu 21.10. I use an external HFS+ hard drive to share files between MacOs and Ubuntu.

Brightness control for HDMI monitor

I cannot get the Ubuntu brightness slider to change the brightness of my (Dell) monitor which is attached by HDMI. I am using 21.10. This is a desktop system with no built in monitor. Grub menu only showing after entering bios settings

I am not sure how or why this now happening, but when I start my desktop, rather than being presented with the grub menu to alternate between Ubuntu 21.10 or Windows 10, I get the screen to go into Bios settings. There are no errors, nothing to say there's a hardware failure at all. After entering bios and going out does grub load.
