Dual-boot Windows10/Unbuntu Computer Always boots into Windows (bcdedit doesn't help)
us flag

I've been using a dual-boot pc for a few years now. I'm used to having to use bcdedit to update the boot manager after installing Windows updates, but after the most recent one, this doesn't seem to work any more.

I would normally run: bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi

This time, I've also tried: bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi

Either way, the computer always boots ...

Ubuntu Fresh Install requires ASUS USB NIC drivers, can't install without internet
br flag

I am in a conundrum. My fresh install of Ubuntu on a desktop PC does not have the required drivers for a network dongle. As such, I am unable to install the required functions to install the drivers (ex: make, dkms, etc...). A wired connection is out of the question.

If there is some way to install these from the install USB I would love to know, but until that happens I am in the dark.

Can't connect to wired ethernet on Ubuntu 20
cn flag

I can't connect to wired ethernet on Ubuntu 20.04.3 because it constantly pulling and unplugging (in network settings). Win10 works just fine with the same cable and router, but if i boot linux even the LAN LED on the router is off.

I tried different LAN ports, and they work better (i can connect to network), but i can't even ping my router

My ifconfig if it helps:

Hiding partially downloaded files
cn flag

When you download a torrent where you only need one, or few of the items there, you get a folder filled to the brim with .part files. This absolutely clutters the folder view and makes it very hard to navigate/use.

Is there a way in nautilus to hide .part files, or any file extension?

Is exim4 logfile wrong
gb flag

I have added an application-specific password to my exim4 password.client file so I can send via gmail. It works, the mail now gets relayed but the exim4 logfile says:

 gmail_login authenticator failed InvalidSecondFactor

As I say the mail does get delivered but I'd like to know if the error message comes from gmail or exim. Many thanks.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
