au flag

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 and I am using the Unity desktop environment. I would like to know if there is a way to search the internet right from the search feature on the desktop (the feature that is similar to Windows' "start menu"). If so, how do I do this exactly?

Place "Power Off" as last option in the system menu?
si flag

I have been using Ubuntu 21.10 for about slightly more than a month now and there is a design choice that irritates me.

The "Log Out" button is placed below the "Power Off" button in the system menu. You can see the image link below.

Image depicting menu with "Lock", followed by a seperator, then "Restart", "Power Off", and "Log Out"

It irritates me as I am used to clicking the last option in the menu, like Mac OS. Is there a way to put the "Power Off" button below the "Log Out?"

How to fix gone dock icons after update to Ubuntu 20.04
nf flag

After I updated to Ubuntu 20.04 all icons are gone from the dock.

The icons come back a few moments after I open any application, but they never show up right after I log in.

I tried to reset to default gnome settings with this

dconf reset -f /org/gnome/

That didn't work. After a restart it did reset the icons but they still only appear after I open an app.

I have enabled 'entering full screen mode after powering on' for Ubuntu guest.

Coming to the core of the question.

Ubuntu 20.04.3 how to change monitor ID numbers

I normally use a desktop with dual monitors, but it is down so I'm trying to use a Dell laptop with the docking station that has two DVI outputs. In Display settings it ID's the two external monitors as 2 and 3 and has a 1-Built-in that is off. How can I make the external monitors ID as 1 and 2 instead of 2 and 3? This seems to be find except when using multiple monitors with Virtual Box. It only gives  ...

Removable media icons not showing up on main window (with trash, main filesystem, etc) - xfce4

I just installed xubuntu 21.10 on a new machine. I had been running plain Ubuntu with xfce4 installed (and using xfce4 as my display manager etc) previously, 21.04, though on a different (similar) machine. There, inserting an SD card or any other USB media would give me a corresponding icon on the desktop, from which I could mount/unmount/eject the media.

Now, I get nothing. I don't necessarily w ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
