Hide a Google calendar's events from the notification area
us flag

Under Settings > Online Accounts, I'm signed into my Google account. I have several calendars associated with my Google account, and all their events show in the notification area in Ubuntu. One of the calendars has many events per day, so every day my notification area is filled with its event notifications.

Is there a way to hide the event notifications from just that one calendar, but still di ...

Installing versions prior to Python 3.9 on 21.04
vn flag

I've upgraded to Ubuntu 21.04 as I prefer not to use the LTS releases (i.e. have later packages). I've been working on a new codebase happily with the default Python 3.9

But for an older project that runs on Python 3.6, I want to also install a version prior to 3.9 (I've hit a packaging issue around a version 3.9 issue https://github.com/hzdg/django-enumfields/commit/8a54ab6ca1a406b4f736b1d8a1daff49431a1 ...

By using the command

sudo smartctl -t long /dev/sdb

you can run a detailed test of the sdb drive. If I want to know during in the test how long it will last, you can use

sudo smartctl -c /dev/sdb | grep -A 1 "execution status".

to get the "intermediate status". When I start the test of the sdb drive and then display the intermediate status, I always get the following message:

Window space configuration doesn't work on logs
uz flag

In short, I can minimize and maximize the window of the log report but I am not able to move it to the side of the window (putting it one side of the screen, splitting it in half).

I can do it on any other window though.

How come it doesn't work on the log window?

How do I disable/remove Klipper in KDE Plamsa 5?
cn flag

Klipper is frequently causing the system to hang on copy/paste actions. This is indicated by my taskbar being non-interactive on copy/paste. This will usually last for 10-30 seconds, or I will restart plasma through the terminal.

Using Steam's Proton to run Roblox

My 21.10 machine has Steam installed, and steam comes with Proton emulator. Valve calls this "Steam Play."

With this, I can play windows-games I get from steam on Ubuntu, just fine. Even if the publisher did not publish a linux binary.

My kids are into Roblox, and would like to play that under Ubuntu.

But Roblox has no Linux client. And Roblox is not available from steam.

Which Ubuntu Version Will Work Best with 1.6MHz Dual Core Celeron N3050

It seems the 'formal'requirement for Ubuntu 20 is a 1.8GHz dual core Celeron. For lightweight work (web browsing, file transfers, downloads) would a 1.6GHz dual processor be OK?

Why does PC turn off when wireless keyboard sleeps

I have a ROG Falchion wireless keyboard. When booted into Ubuntu 20.04.3, the computer will suspend by itself. At first I thought this was a power setting. Nope. I noticed that the exact time my keyboard goes to sleep, my PC suspends. If I use the USB cable, the problem resolves. Has anyone else had this issue? Or have heard of this issue? I can't seem to find anything about it.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
