cn flag

A few times a day, I lose WiFi connectivity. When I have connectivity, the IP address of my wifi adaper is 192.168.0.93. When I don't have connectivity, the address is 172.20.20.20. syslog shows Network Manager dhcp4 setting this address.

I tried enabling manual adapter settings but my browser doesn't work, probably because I don't have a DNS server address entered.

How can I get dhcp4 to cooperate, ...

My PC has dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 10, installed on separate hard drive.

Some background details: when the PC power on, it goes to the grub menu, and default on Ubuntu. Each time I want to use the Windows, I switch the grub menu (I wrote a bash script, so I usually WOL the PC, SSH in Ubuntu, and run the script and wait for windows start, then I can use windows with Remote desktop)

Migrating from VirtualBox to WSL
jp flag

I've been using Ubuntu on VirtualBox for about a year now, but I recently learned about WSL, and it seems a lot more useful for my purposes. I've been trying to migrate all my data out of the VirtualBox VM, but I'm unable to find any resources online that tell me how to do so. I was able to migrate my VM and all the data within to Hyper-V in the hopes that migration from Hyper-V to WSL2 would be simpler ...

How to upgrade SystemD to 246+ on Ubuntu 20.04?
za flag

I'm using ROS on Ubuntu 20.04 with a CAN-FD adapter card. In systemd 246+ (20.04 uses 245), systemd-networkd adds support for CAN-FD specific settings to allow the system to boot automatically.

Is there a way for me to get systemd to a newer version without changing the version of Ubuntu (since I need to stay on 20.04 for the specific ROS integration)?

Galera cluster on an ubuntu 20.04 + mysql does not run propery

I installed Galera cluster on three Ubuntu 20.04 servers, using these instructions: https://galeracluster.com/2021/03/installing-galera-4-with-mysql-8-on-ubuntu-20-04/

After some initial problems fixed (wsrep_cluster_size remains zero), and changing the wsrep_sst_method to mysqldump I got the | wsrep_cluster_size | 1 | as one might expect.

But when I launch the second node, all goes down.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
