Anyway to get the picklist back in gedit?
ru flag

Upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04, and the missing picklist in gedit is increasingly frustrating. By "picklist" I mean the dropdown menu where you could go to any of your open documents.

This picklist is replaced with some < > arrows, so instead of just opening the picklist and choosing the document, you have to click and click and click forwards or backwards.

There must be a tweak to get the picklist back  ...

Stuck in Cinammon - want to get back to Ubuntu
jp flag

So I only got out of using Windows maybe three weeks ago - dual booted my laptop - and a friend of mine decided I should try a bunch of things out all at once, so I got Ubuntu (20.04), as well as the Cinammon (4.4.8) flavor. Thing is, on Ubuntu, I could just click and switch between DEs on the login screen, while now that I'm on Cinammon, I seem to be stuck. I tried everything I could find online but it ...

how to save folder out of computer
pk flag

I'm on standard Ubuntu and have a folder with 16 videos. Am having issues in upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04 (step 2 will be upgrade to 20.04 next). Have been told to go in 2 steps which sounds reasonable to me. Having trouble upgrading I'm thinking of putting in 20.04 with a fresh disc which would lose my folder. I think. That is how I've done it before, not having had success with upgrading. Is there so ...

How to boot Ubuntu 18.04 with 2 external USB-C DisplayPort 4K monitors?
cn flag

When I boot Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with two external USB-C DisplayPort 4K monitors, the display freezes prior to the login screen. However, if I first boot with only one external USB-C DisplayPort 4k monitor, I am able to plug the 2nd monitor in and get both working if I set both monitors to 29.98 Hz. This is due to a limitation of the Intel NUC I am using, which only supports two USB-C 4k monitors at 30 Hz ...

Is there a Display Manager for ultra-widescreen monitors in Linux?

Use-Case

So in my daily life, I use Ubuntu 20.x for coding, chatting, browsing but also most notably for online calls with screen sharing.

So I use an ultrawide monitor and I get annoyed with the window resizing. Also, I couldn't find a proper solution for screen sharing during online calls, as I only got the option to choose a monitor or a program to share.

How can I enable publish of multiple package versions in Reprepro?
tr flag

We currently use Reprepro to provide in-house publishing of various proprietary packages (eg Security agents) which vendors only provide .deb download for rather than upstream repositories for direct consumption.

We are able to publish packages just fine, but only the latest version is retrievable via apt-cache madison somepackage

We'd like to essentially do what GitLab for example is able to do  ...

Nvidia 3080 Ti and GT 1030, Driving 6 monitors
de flag

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

I'm trying to drive 6 monitors. I have a 3080TI and a GT 1030.

Using the nvidia xconfig utility it looks like I can only run 4 monitors on 1 X screen and the other two (on the GT1030) on a separate X screen. This isn't exactly ideal.

I tried to do my best at xrandr magic with:

xrandr --setprovideroutputsource 1 0

and

xrandr --output DP-1-1 --mode auto

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
