fr flag

I'm trying to automatically mount a samba share residing on nas running openmediavault 5.6.12-1 and samba version 4.9.5-Debian on my desktop running Ubuntu 20.04.3.

After following the instructions in the openmediavault forum and the ubuntu community I added the following command to my fstab file:

Ubuntu 21.10: Disabled "Allow flipping" in NVIDIA X server settings to fix refresh rate problem, but now there is screen tearing
in flag

I was having the same issue as was described here: Dual monitors setup capped at 60hz

I did the fix in that thread and it worked, but now my 60Hz monitor has really bad screen tearing on everything (I thought there wasn't screen tearing on the 144Hz monitor, but there was. It seems that's just a limitation with X).

I think I've narrowed it down to "allow flipping". If I have it on, there is no screen tea ...

Can't upgrade certain files in Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

Recently installed Ubuntu. After a month I tried to upgrade all the packages but 5 of them got held back and I couldn't figure out why.

I ran the command sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and now running upgrade command shows no packages are held back but running update command still shows the earlier packages.

Epson V600 not working in a docker image

I have a new Epson-v600 scanner and can't make it work with ubuntu 20.04. I read through all the postings here and elsewhere, I saw the workarounds and tried them all.

Could someone who owns an Epson-v600 pls. checkout https://github.com/ludwigprager/epson-v600 and execute the command in the README. And perhaps tell me what I did wrong in the Dockerfile. In case it works for you I can assume that my  ...

How do I troubleshoot slow wifi speed on Ubuntu 20.04?
cn flag

I just switched from Windows to Ubuntu 20.04. My download speed went down from 30 Mbps to 1 Mbps. I can't even watch a youtube video at 720p. Are there any solutions to this? Also, I noticed after I connect to my wifi, it is fast the first 2 minutes and then it slows down again. I don't want to have to disconnect and connect to my wifi every 2 minutes.

How to forward/rewrite outgoing UDP ports?
br flag

I'd like to run a NetBios nameserver on my LAN. It needs to listen to UDP broadcasts sent to port 137 and also respond from port 137. I'd like for my program not to have to run as a privilege program in order to use this low-numbers port.

With ufw, I can successfully redirect 137-->13700

Wifi drops and then doesn't recognize the password

When trying to transfer a large file to my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS box via rsync it will drop the wifi connection.

To get it back, I have to login and do sudo service network-manager restart

This usually works. However about every 4th or 5th time, it will pop up in the GUI a prompt for the wifi password. It has the correct password already in the field but doesn't connect and acts like I've put in the ...

The service script is located at ~/.config/systemd/user/ipfs.service

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
