Is it possible to have a different background on mutliple displays-Lubuntu?
id flag

I am a casual Linux user here, so my knowledge is limited.

The default Lubuntu background is stretching itself across both of my displays. I followed the directions to install stitchwp here: How to make wallpapers work in Lubuntu with two monitors?, and it appeared to install stitchwp. The results seem similar to before though. It still does not allow me to have one background image on each display, nor ...

Cron job doesn't run script python in the specific directory
nl flag

I created a simple python script to add, commit, and push all files in some directory. I want to do this daily by a scheduled cron job. But unfortunately, the script doesn't run. Before this, I do some research on how to check activities in my Ubuntu, and I see my cron job has been executed. So I was confused why the script doesn't run.

This is my cron job:

I do my backups with rsync. Now rsync gets stuck transferring my email folders.

I use 20.04 and thunderbird 78.13.0 (64-Bit). I start my backup with this:

Restore/copy GPT+EFI disk backups to new disk and make bootable
sd flag

I've been going in circles. My situation is as follows:

  • old disk died, it was a GPT disk booting EFI with 3 partitions, sda1=fat32 (flagged esp,boot and containing /boot and /EFI), sda2=etx4 (containing the rest, as well as the typical /boot), sda3=swap (linuxswap);
  • I have backups (made using rsync -aAXH) of the contents of both sda1 and sda2
  • I have a new disk and a bootable Ubuntu 20.04.3 USB stick

Purple screen after logo and before login (20.04) - maybe due to AMD
ro flag

I have a Gigabyte H87-HD3 desktop with AMD Radeon HD 7850. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 (completely erasing Windows 7) a few days ago and I still can't get it to start without "nomodeset", because of purple screen before login (I see the Ubuntu logo for 1-2sec and then plain purple, no logos, no errors)

Esc and Crt+Alt+Del: nothing happens. Ctr+Alt+F4: Terminal starts and asks for login and password. ...

gnome-panel using 14% cpu (gnome-flashback)
rs flag

This relates to a prior question (Ubuntu 20.04 gnome-shell continual 20% CPU usage). I am using 20.04 on an AMD 4-core (8 fixed point core) desktop. I use gnome-flashback. gnome-panel is using 14.2% continuously. I have read that the system monitor is to blame. I'm just wondering whether any developers are working to make this app any more efficient. It takes 14% of a cpu just to check on the cpu? At any  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
