Multi-Pointer X flickering
cn flag

I know this topic is kind of old, but I'd like to know if there were any news in the last decade or so. My Ubuntu version is 20.04.3 LTS.

I want to use multiple pointer like described in this Multi-Pointer X article. It was easy to add a second pointer and reattach it with xinput.

However, the second pointer is flickering a lot. The previous named article suggest deactivating Compton, but I couldn't fi ...

Dualsense controller not functioning properly in Ubuntu 20.04 / Linux 5.15.1
in flag

I have recently bought a Dualsense controller for use with my computer. I did this because there is [in-kernel (official) support] present for it. I updated my Ubuntu to the latest stable kernel release (5.15.1) using mainline, as the currently running kernel was 5.13 and thus too low for the in-kernel driver to be supported.

Pairing with it did not work, and it was not recognized at all, so I plugged i ...

Headset microphone not working on Acer Aspire ES1-572
cn flag

So guys, basically is this... My headset microphone is not working on my acer notebook. I've tried many solutions that I found in this forum, but none worked.

Already edited the config file for codecs, check the kernel correct codec for my audio jack, tried to check alsamixer volume and alsamixer capture panel. Also hdajackrest and check pavucontrol levels.

Firefox 94 Broke My Hot Keys

In Kubuntu 20.04, I use autokey to create hotkeys that launch websites.

Prior to Firefox 94, these hot keys had no difficulty launching pages, but now each time I try to launch a page I get this error:

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile.

Is the version of an apt package always the version of the contained software?
ng flag

I am using wondershaper but it's hard to tell the version because it doesn't support -v or --version. So I run

apt show wondershaper

and it says Version: 1.1a-10.

But I don't know if it's the version of the package or the contained software.

So I want to know:

Is it 100% safe that apt show does tell the version of the contained software and not of the package itself?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
