Ubuntu boots only one time after installation
hu flag

I just purchased a dell inspiron 14 7000. I installed ubuntu 20.04 on it but I have a problem: Everything works fine during installation. I can boot it one time after the installation. After that, if I reboot it, it doesn't boots anymore: black screen.

First of all here is what I have done to install it:

  • I put storage option from RAID to AHCI in the bios
  • Secure boot is ON

bcdedit /enum firmware does not show grub
ng flag

I just installed Lubuntu 18.04 on a laptop with Windows 10 on another partition of its disk. As a final step it installed grub as well. But after booting it goes directly to Windows 10 without giving me choice.

So I searched and found out that I can achieve it with bcdedit.exe. When I run bcdedit.exe /enum firmware I can't see grub between the entries.

How can I fix it to be able to run the command ...

I've created a file, "sqlKill.shutdown", in ~/lib/systemd/system-shutdown, was this the correct way to stop MSSQL at shutdown?
in flag

My mssql-server service has a bad habit of not being stopped at shutdown. To remedy this, I've navigated to ~/lib/systemd/system-shutdown and created the file sqlKill.shutdown containing exactly the following

#!/bin/sh
sudo systemctl stop mssql-server.service

Is this a sufficient and safe way to force MSSQL server to stop at shutdown?

Shutter capture functions are greyed after 21.10 upgrade

I have a computer and a laptop, both were running 21.04. But after I did the upgrade to release 21.10, I noticed Shutter Screenshot Tool is not functional anymore. All capture commands grayed, as you may notice by these attached images below.

I found a solution in issue 1353360 but it does not apply to me, because I don't wanna enable Wayland. And I already reinstalled Shutter under new PPA, withou ...

Asus PN50-E1 and 18.04 LTS - No network adapter
tr flag

So, short and sweet:

  • I got (for work purposes) a PN50-E1 with an AMD 4700U APU
  • Everything works well if I install 20.04 desktop
  • If I try to use 18.04 LTS (desktop or server), the ethernet network adapter is not recognized

We use 18.04 on all our managed machines, so going 20.04 isn't an option. But I would really like to stick to this hardware if possible.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
