CPU package badly configured on my MSI laptop, how to reconfigure?
cn flag

Problem :

A few months ago, I got a new MSI gaming laptop (GP76 Leopard w/Intel Core i7-10870H and Nvidia RTX 3070).

However, since the very beginning, I've been experiencing a very annoying behaviour : the CPU goes crazy too often, hence the fans, and for no good reason.

Workaround :

I worked around this problem by simply disabling Intel Turbo Boost : echo 1 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/intel ...

Ubuntu 20.04.3 Alienware Laptop freezes when booting Ubuntu while plugged into Dell Thunderbolt 3 Dock (WD19TB)
in flag

Upon booting, there is about an 80% chance that the laptop will simply freeze, load to a black screen, or just dump a bunch of text in a booting terminal window and eventually freeze when it is plugged into my Dell WD19TB Thunderbolt 3 dock.

If I boot my laptop without the dock plugged in there is no issues, however if I then plug the dock in afterwards, there is again an ~80% chance that it will ...

Extracting winrar unlimited file size till disk is full
ec flag

When using the default archive manager (pictogram of the default archive manager for ubuntu) and trying to extract small files (< 1mB) the files keep getting bigger and bigger until the disk is full. What I mean by this is it keeps extracting and the extracted file keeps growing.

So if I try to extract a 100 kB file it starts at 1 gB and ends up at 80 gB.

Normal zips work fine.

What does "Total Received" represent in Resources in the system monitor?
bd flag

In the Resources tab in the stock system monitor on 21.10 there's a Total Received field under the network graph. In the same session it has shown e.g. 200 KiB, 2 MiB, 180 KiB, 3 MiB, 30 MiB, 900 KiB, in that order.

At first I thought it was showing what it says: the total (since logging in), but when it proved to not be cumulative I now have no clue what it represents.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
