How can i recover files from an Ubuntu Server boot drive?
in flag

My old laptop with Ubuntu Server 20.04 on it died recently. I used it as a local Minecraft server for the kids. I would like to back up the Minecraft world from the harddrive.

This is what I tried:

  1. I plugged the harddrive into another laptop and fired it up. It gave me the message that the drive was not a bootable one.
  2. I connected the drive through USB on an Ubuntu machine and tried to extract .img files ...

How to persistently map Capslock to ESC and Ctrl so that it still works after suspend/resume
us flag

I'm using the following lines in my ~/.xprofile on Ubuntu 20.04 to map Capslock to ESC and Ctrl:

# make CapsLock behave like Ctrl:
setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps
# make short-pressed Ctrl behave like Escape:
xcape -e 'Control_L=Escape'

which works perfectly fine for me.

My issue is that it does not survive suspend/resume reliably. For this, I've tried 2 different soluti ...

How to delete all website data from the system? (https://twitch.tv -site not working anymore)

Twitch.tv website has always been kinda janky when I switched to Linux; usually it takes multiple tries before it loads everything instead of just showing that "error loading module"-ghost. But couple of days ago it stopped completely working. The site doesn't load at all, only showing a white screen with the logo on the left up corner and loading symbol in the middle.

Keeping the Bluetooth settings dialog open (as it is described on some web sites), the phone reports that the PC denied the receiption of the file.

Ubuntu 18.04 - mouse pointer no longer 'sees' URL links
in flag

I'm running Firefox 83 on Ubuntu 18.04. Since the FF 83 upgrade, my mouse pointer no longer does the 'transform' into a pointing finger when it floats over a link.

If I click on a link, I can briefly see the finger as the link launches.

So it's not the end of the world, but I'd like a solution.

And yes, when I gave the OK to the offered upgrade prompt, there may have been something else on there that I ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
