Mounted Disk Issue
mx flag

Please go easy as I am somewhat a novice in Linux.

I am running Ubuntu 20.04.2 and using it as a file server. I built it about a year ago and it has been working fine. This morning I rebooted the server for the first time in a while and it hung between checking the disks and maintenance mode. I was able to start in Recovery Mode and I noticed that one of my 6 hard drives was unmounted.

current utilities to remove "old" kernels and related files for 20.04
cn flag

I have read RemoveOldKernels

Various older Ubuntu utilities have been deprecated (obsolete). Is there any simpler, SAFE, GUI method or is the information in RemoveOldKernels all there is? An individually developed script that works for a reader of this question is a possibility, but I would prefer an "official" Ubuntu solution that has more generally been tested and debugged.

Ubuntu 20.04 audio crackling through headphones
tr flag

I'm currently experiencing crackling audio with headphones in Ubuntu 20.04. This issue only occurs with headphones, but multiple sound devices, doesn't occur with speakers. I've tried multiple listed fixes for this issue however none of them seem to work. The most common fix seems to be power saver related fixes, this doesn't seem to change the issue. What makes this issue weird is if there's no audio p ...

I'm trying to switch to Ubuntu on my laptop which has an RTX 3070 and Intel UHD graphics for 10th gen which I think they call GT2 graphics(?).

Ideally I want to use KDE as it's what I'm used to so I've installed Kubuntu. However, I've got the NVidia proprietary drivers installed and my laptop seems to be stuck at a 40hz refresh rate. The displays configuration lets me choose 165hz but it doesn't  ...

How do I change the u-boot settings on 21.04 desktop to boot the previous kernel (vmlinuz.old)
us flag

The last update/upgrade on my pi4 running Ubuntu has killed the display output. I get a kernel warning and stack dump in vc4_hdmi_read. The kernel completes booting but pi can only be accessed remotely.

The update changed the kernel version from 5.11.0-1017 to 5.11.0-1019.

What is the easiest way to boot from the previous version?

Thanks.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
