How To Stop My Mouse Acting Like A Superkey
nc flag

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

If there's any roughness on the desk surface, sometimes even if the mouse is moved suddenly, it defocusses my active screen and shows all other open windows - just like hitting the Super (Windows) key.

It's tediously annoying as it so often happens at a point where I have an idea and want to try something -- not the time for interruption !

Can anyone suggest a means of disa ...

What does the -W parameter of tar actually do?

I am using tar to pack up some data. Before I move it to an archive, I want to check the integrity of the tarball. According to the man page, the parameter -W does a verification:

-W, --verify
Verify the archive after writing it.

I tested this and it seems to do something:

I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 in WSL, which I use to compile my c++ programs.

I need to write a program that gets the name of all the files in a certain directory and adds them into a vector of strings. Browsing the internet I found that I can use the "filesystem" library to do this in a simple and easy way.

The problem is that whenever I try using this answer I get the error 'filesystem' has not been declar ...

Not detecting video card

I've recently installed a Nvidia GTX 660 into my Ubuntu (20.04 LTS) box. The BIOS is configured correctly to have the discreet card be the active graphics engine, however, Ubuntu isn't detecting that it's there. I've pulled all the lists and the only graphics I can find on the system are the Intel HD 4000 that's built in. I've installed drivers for it, but it's still no go.

It is easy to set the contents of the normal ctrl-C ctrl-V clipboard in Gtk 3 in a Python 3 app, with something like

clipboard = Gtk.Clipboard.get(Gdk.SELECTION_CLIPBOARD)
clipboard.set_text("It worked!, -1)

It is also easy to monitor the clipboard for changes, using the Clipboard object's owner-change signal.

However, I would like to ignore owner-change in my app if it was my app that set the c ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
