I have the XPS 15 (9510) running Ubuntu 21.04 connected to power via one of the Thunderbolt 4 ports on the left site, occasionally I connect on the right side of the laptop (USB-C), a small dock that also provides power via USB-C PD (it is required to operate the dock), having 2 power sources, will that damage the laptop? Or the laptop will keep using only the TB4 (it was already active when I plugged t ...

Glitch when opening app on Ubuntu 20.04.03
cn flag

I installed Ubuntu 20.04.02 and then updated it to 20.04.03 from terminal emulator. Everything went well but this happened. Everytime I open a new instance app, the UI elements will be transparent until I move the window. This happened to all apps. Windows 11 and previosly installed Kubuntu don't have this problem. Ubuntu 20.04.02 has this problem but very rarely, the .03 just happens all the time. ...

Fstab mounting fails when remote share is OFF
nl flag

I have an entry in fstab to mount at boot a remote share which works fine when the local box boots finds remote box ON. The issue is when the local box starts and the remote box is OFF. The workaround is to mount manualy which is a bit annoying. I am just wondering if there is a better way to acomplish this task, something like an auto mounting when the remote box status change to ONLINE.

Thanks! ...

I followed the instructions here to enable Hangeul (Korean) typing on my Ubuntu 20.04 installation using IBusHangul.

Everything works perfectly fine except in TeXworks and TeXmaker. In both programs, if I switch to the Korean keyboard layout, pressing backspace produces the character , pressing the left arrow key produces , and pressing the right arrow key produces . (Notice these are fixed-wi ...

Ubuntu 20.04 with KDE - issue with resize to FullScreen
ao flag

I'm using a laptop with Full HD resolution, but sometimes I need the resolution to be lower.

When I try to change it using the following command:

xrandr -s 1440x900

the result is not what I expect. It's not scaled to full-screen. The picture covers only a square area with black spaces on left and right.

Is it possible to change resolution and force extend lower resolutions to fullscreen?

  1. Ubuntu ISO loaded on external USB drive.
  2. Boot into Ubuntu off external drive via UEFI as a live usb These steps work fine. I can also boot into Windows 10 which is installed on the internal hard-drive for the laptop. This is how I know the drive is fine and functioning and the windows partition is actually there and should be accessible.

I tried sudo fdisk -l but didn't see the internal drive l ...

Ubuntu Server Install Did Not Use Entire Disk
jp flag

Using Ubuntu Focal ubuntu-20.04.2-live-server-amd64.iso, I created a kvm image that was 250G. But the ubuntu-20.04.2-live-server-amd64.iso installer only used 123G of it for the root. Why is this when I selected for it to use the entire disk? Is my only option to grow the lvm if possible?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
