How can I control the usage of a printer on ubuntu desktop?

Sam

I live in the dormitory, and we need to print a lot. I have bought a home HP printer, and a laptop. I'd like to share the printer and the laptop with my roommates (about 500 people), and charge them printing fees.

Here's what I am thinking about:

  1. The user inserts an USB drive containing the file to print.
  2. prompt an box for he or she to login, pay fees (Using a Stripe API) before (Well if that's di ...

OneDrive for Linux do not sync in ntfs partition

I began to use onedrive for Linux available at https://github.com/abraunegg/onedrive. I use Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS.

It works fine if onedrive local folder is on an ext4 partition. Nevertheless I want to place onedrive local folder on a NTFS partition that is shared with a Windows 10 installation.

When I put a file in onedrive local folder it is uploaded, but onedrive client cannot write a downloaded file. I  ...

Ubuntu Mate 21.04 loses DNS resolution after a few reboots
cn flag

I have been using Ubuntu Mate 21.04 since January with no problems until about 4 or 5 days ago. At that time DNS stopped. I've Googled and tried several "fixes" with no improvement, especially since the resolve system has changed almost yearly. The only thing that seems to work is to replace the "127.0.0.53" in /etc/resolv.conf to "9.9.9.9" or some other known resolver, which works until reboot. Reinsta ...

On Ubuntu 21.04 I'm unable to get hylafax 6.0.7 to successfully probe two different USB modems: a USRobotics 5637 and a generic "USB 2.0 56K Modem" with Conexant chipset.

I've gotten hylafax-server installed and appended the following to /etc/udev/rules.d/50-myusb.rules so that Ubuntu would allow writes to the modem:

I'm new to Linux and changing OS from computers, I wanted to have Lubuntu and Androidx86 in dual boot so partitioned the disk accordingly. Ubuntu 18-04 loses IP Failover Configuration

we have two Ubuntu 18-04 servers and they both lose their Failover IP settings around 06 and 07AM.

They have always worked perfectly, in fact, both installations are new. One done 1 month ago and one done about 2 months ago.

In journalctl, I noticed this interesting thing:

Ubuntu - USB mouse/kb work at boot up, then deactivate at login screen!
uz flag

My external Logitech USB keyboard and track ball mouse work perfectly at boot time (and on the GRUB screen), then when the Ubuntu login screen appears, they stop working every time.

I have to unplug and reinsert them, then they work again. This of course will wear the port out in no time at all, so I need a resolution to this, can't just replug every time.

Please help!

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
