Gnome desktop unresponsive on 18.04

I have been experiencing many desktop freezes recently. One way I can fairly reliably (though not always) cause this to happen is to click 'Other locations' in Nautilus file manager. I get a spinning wheel, the mouse cursor moves but nothing else is responsive. I can usually hit ctrl-alt-F3 to bring up a terminal, type pkill nautilus, and then hit ctrl-alt-F1 to get back to the desktop. Sometimes alt-F2 ...

There is no screenshot on the clipboard when calling my screenshot-shortcut xfce4-screenshooter -rc or xfce4-screenshooter -mcw. I first asked a question on https://gitlab.xfce.org/apps/xfce4-screenshooter/-/issues/60 but finally I was directed here because it was not the right forum.

I am using xfce4-screenshooter 1.9.7 under Xubuntu 18.04.5 LTS currently with kernel 5.4.0-80-generic x86_64.

Black screen after kernel upgrade to 5.11.0-25-generic
ru flag

I'm using 3 monitors 1920x1080 (laptop and two external) on Ubuntu 21.04. After kernel upgrade from 5.11.0-18-generic to 5.11.0-25-generic the built-in monitor started to show only a black screen, the two other monitors work properly. If I try to start only with a laptop monitor it shows the black screen too. If I use a previous version of the kernel it works properly.

Translate badblocks result from 1024 block size to 4096 block size?
us flag

I have a 4TB hard drive which I ran the badblocks utility without passing in the -b block-size parameter. So I'm pretty sure it defaulted it to 1024, and my 4TB drive/filesystem is most likely setup with a block size of 4096. Is there a way I can translate the results to match the 4096 block size? For example, if the bad block is #5 with block-size=1024, it would map to block #2 with block-size=4096

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
