I have dual boot Ubuntu 18.04 and windows 10 in my laptop with mobile hotspot internet connection. I am experiencing slow internet speed on both Ubuntu 18.04 and windows 10 as well. Likewise, if on my mobile net speed 100 KB/s then on my laptop net speed is ~50 KB/s. In fact net speed gets almost half on my laptop. To fix it, I tried this,

Using Ubuntu Nautilus (File Manager), how do I get proper context menu items in list view?
us flag

I am running Ubuntu 20.04 and Gnome Files (Nautilus) v3.36.3-stable.

I prefer the Ubuntu Files to display my files in a List View (with file details) instead of the icon view.

However, when I want to right-click and get the context menu that shows more than the items for a specific file, I have to switch to Icon view so I can click "between" the files.

How to debug the GUI locking up?

BCS

At seemingly random time, my GUI locks up. I can generally recover from this (sort of) by getting another session via ssh and running sudo init 3 ; sudo init 5 but I lose any work in progress in all of my running GUI apps.

  • What could be causing this?
  • How can I identify the problem?
  • How can I make this quit happening?

I've searched for a few obvious things but all the results I've found so far ar ...

Mouse button 4 and 5 go back/forth twice in Discord
cn flag

In Discord, pressing mouse button 4 or 5 goes back/forth both on button press and release. It doesn't happen anywhere else.

I've tried 2 mouses I had and several distros (and even ran a VM on Windows once), but the issue persisted in all of these scenarios. I'm assuming it's Discord's (or Electron's) fault, so I have no idea whether anything can be done about it.

co flag

I connect to my Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS server via SSH, and the "You have new mail" notification works properly when logging in, however, if I receive mail while already logged in, I don't get any kind of notification.

I remember this working properly on other Linux systems in the distant past and I can find references online regarding it working for other people but no instructions on how to make it  ...

dot

I find myself using PlayOnLinux's "Run a .exe file in this virtual drive" (under "Configure > yourDrive > Miscellaneous") functionality very frequently recently. Therefore I started to wonder if it is possible to access the feature using commands to create a shortcut in the file context menu. I am looking for a command that looks something like this:
playonlinux myDrive runexe path/to/file.exe

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
