How to properly add an internal SATA drive to Ubuntu 20.04 desktop?
cn flag

I have added a SanDisk SSD SATA 1 TB disk to my Ubuntu machine. I can see it being recognized in the BIOS, but my attempts to get the kernal to recogbnize it and allocate an /dev/sd* entry to it via either a scan or reboot do not yield the desired result. Here is the listing in /dev:

 ls /dev/s*

Most of the time I open a window from a virtual terminal on a workspace, say W1, via a shell. For instance

Sometimes it can take a few seconds before the window of the corresponding process appears. Therefore I often switch to another workspace, say W2, where I am working on something else. After some latency period, the window of the process (libreoffice in the ab ...

I have a test HTTPS server running on Linux server (Ubuntu 20.04.4) on port 20000. I would like to log all connections on this port. So I did this, and it works fine.

Now, I would like to exclude any local IP connections from logs related to this rule. How can I do that?

I can't fix broken packages

I can't fix this problem. I don't know how. I followed a tutorial on youtube and I downloaded the deb package on this site dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql and I tried installing it. It didn't work and gave me errors and packages that couldn't be installed.

sudo apt --fix-broken install

This is what I get:

Here's the thing. I have ubuntu 16.04 and windows 10, windows system files are on hard drive, ubuntu is on ssd. A couple of hours ago, the computer turned off urgently for some reason, and not a single system wanted to start. Ubuntu redirected to the console, where it required me to manually execute fsck, wh ...

Bluetooth connects, then disconnects -- unstable answer
us flag

I'm running Kubuntu 21.10. Bluetooth connects, then immediately disconnects. This problem has been reported before and was solved by regressing to an earlier kernel. So this is really a meta-question: given the maddening instability of Ubuntu's Bluetooth implementation, is there a good strategy, or indeed any strategy at all, for keeping my system updated and Bluetooth working?

I am on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS, Gnome 3.36.8 and X11. Started all of a sudden, is consistently reproducible, which means certain context menus or bookmark folder lists always are corrupted and others not.

Help with 'sudo --askpass' on Ubuntu / Apache2 Server

I need help with a sudo -A command in a shell script. The -A option is for AskPass. According to the sudo man page:

Normally, if sudo requires a password, it will read it from the user's terminal. If the -A (askpass) option is specified, a (possibly graphical) helper program is executed to read the user's password and output the password to the standard output. If the SUDO_ASKPASS environment v ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
