Screen share shared audio issue while using snaps
in flag

Experiencing an issue on Signal and Zoom snaps. Running Ubuntu Budgie 21.10.

During the screen share there is no sound from my shared desktop. I have tried signal .deb - no screen share sound, no mic input sound no sound from the other side.

On snap I only have screen share sound missing.

I'm trying to set up smart card browser support for all users of a system on LTS 20.04. I've read quite a few guides, including this one:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CommonAccessCard

but most seem to end up with a command similar to this:

modutil -dbdir sql:.pki/nssdb/ -add "OpenSC" -libfile /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opensc-pkcs11.so

Which works, but each user would have to run that (on every s ...

How to bring kernel 5.8 back on 20.04
ar flag

I've been using Ubuntu 20.04 in a very old computer (with a very old nVidia card) for a long time without problems, until it was automatically updated to Kernel version 5.13.

I don't know what, but something is definitely broken in the Kernel 5.13 that causes several issues:

  • nVidia card not working correctly (can't login to desktop, screen stays completely blank).
  • form time to time the filesystem automat ...

Ubuntu 20.04 Hangs when Unlocking

The problem manifests as follows: I walk away from my computer, come back about 15 minutes later to find that the screen has gone black and the computer has locked (as expected). I tap the space bar to wake it, which works, presenting me with the lock screen, where I enter my password. Then the icon spins for about half a turn then stops. I can then wait indefinitely and the lock screen never progresses ...

Help with Barcode Scanner
ml flag

I have a barcode scanner and I was testing some configurations to make it work for a client and I messed up so deep. The problem is that I wrongly selected the IBM USB OEM option and now I am stuck with a scanner that doesn't want to boot.

I made a little research and this is what I managed to know:

When I attach the device to a USB port this is what dmesg tells me:

Mouse pointer freezes frequently - possibly caused by ACPI. 20.04.4

Tom

I have a rather unusual problem that in the recent month or so, my mouse pointer has started to freeze completely several times a day. I believe ACPI might be involved as the usual, slight white noise coming from my headphones disappears concurrently when it happens. However, the audio works just fine but I have to unplug the mouse (USB) and plug it back in so it works once more. Keyboard is unaffected. ...

Hide Top Bar in overview

What I want to do:

Hide the GNOME Panel while Overview/App Grid is open, but show it on the desktop. So when I go to my activities overview or look at my apps, the panel is not there. But when I am looking at the desktop, it is there, and I can interact with it and everything.

What I've Tried:

I've tried variations of Hide Top Bar extensions without any luck.

lscpu command shows more CPUs than the model indicates

According to its listing page, my laptop was supposed to have an Intel Core i7-4800MQ, but lscpu indicates it has an i7-4610M CPU instead. Obviously, I was given the wrong product, but I am confused because it also indicates that my 4610M has four CPUs instead of the two indicated by Intel's CPU info page. The 4800MQ has four CPUs.

GNOME Shell Extension screen margin

I am in love with tweaking my shell, and I have a few extensions installed. One of which is Hide Top Bar.
When enabled, my Desktop Icons (Desktop Icons: NEO/NG) shift up. This makes the top bar overlap the icons when the panel is shown, and I would like to fix this by shifting them back down.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
