Is there any modern-day replacement for the Ubuntu Mini ISO?
ru flag

I'd like to use Ubuntu on my laptop, but as an experienced user, I would prefer to start off from a command line environment without removing all of the GNOME/GUI stuff. It seems that there used to be an "Ubuntu Mini" ISO which fits my purposes, but it has been discontinued in favor of a server installer that I have no use for. I would prefer to steer clear of Debian as my school does not officially  ...

Black Screen on Ubuntu Virtual Box
pt flag

I am using an Oracle Virtual Box to run Ubuntu on my PC. Everything was doing fine until today: if I start Ubuntu, the virtual box screen is all black. If I change the display settings from VBoxSVGA to VMSVGA and restart Ubuntu, it runs correctly but I cannot enlarge the screen. How should I fix this?

Question about bash behavior with non-interactive mode
pl flag

I basically need to understand the following behavior:

$ echo $SHELL
/bin/bash
$ bash -c echo $SHELL

bash -c echo $SHELL produces a blank output, and this confuses me because I would expect the SHELL to be set. This is true for $BASH_VERSION as well.

Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks for your time!

Ubuntu 20.04 boot failure after editing system files on a iMac
in flag

I'm a life-long Windows PC guy (boo hiss) whose friend was getting rid of a 2010 27-inch iMac (as the hard drive had failed). I took it from him and I figured I could use it as way to learn Linux. I bought an SSD and replaced the HD. Then I installed Ubuntu as a single install, deleting the Mac OS recovery partition in the process (which I now understand was a mistake).

Additional i2c_gpio is not detected on Ubuntu Server 20.04 / RPi Zero 2 W / A+
pg flag

I'm trying to enable the second (GPIO-based i2c) on RPi Zero 2 W, Ubuntu server 20.04 to connect the following sensor. Note that the primary i2c pins are physically occupied as RPi is used as a hat for another board. I've read tons of articles / similar questions, but have no luck detecting the sensor.

Here's my /boot/config.txt:

enable_uart=1

I've seen similar posts in this forum but none of them have worked for me. I recently adopted linux and the first couple of days my wifi was working fine but all of a sudden there is no way on earth to get it to work. I been reading a lot in the subject and found lots of similar issues on the internet. I don't think that many have been solved. Is there a way to actually get a driver for the rlt8822BE in ...

What is the difference between these two expressions [Shell Script]

A newbie's here. Well, I'm having some trouble understanding the difference between:

let a=$a+$b
let i=$i+1

and:

a+=$b
i=$(($i + 1))

There's definitely a difference because the second expression ruined my script, giving a trash value.

Here is my script:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
