Samsung T5 portable SSD opens very slow
cn flag

I recently got T5 SSD and decided to pick some files from it on Ubuntu. First I thought it doesn't work for some reason, and checked usb-devices command to see if it appears. And yes it does, right away. However it didn't show in file manager, until after about 5 minutes it magically popped up. Tried again and same thing, takes 3-5mins before it shows. Any idea why and how to make it speedier for my Ubu ...

How do I make all apps use wayland instead of xwayland?
sa flag

I enabled Wayland on my Ubuntu 20.04.

It seems that every app needs to be configured individually to use Wayland and not xwayland.

How do I make all apps that support wayland use wayland?

For firefox I had to add MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 in /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop for it to start using wayland instead of xwayland.

WiFi keeps dropping, internal Intel adapter to AT&T Netgear modem, Ubuntu 20.04
sa flag

This is an insidious problem that is driving me nuts, and I have run out of skill.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a Chuwi laptop with Intel 9461 wireless chip. Works flawlessly when connected to most WiFi, including my T-Mobile Pixel in hotspot mode, and the household Netgear WAP.

When I connect to the AT&T hotspot (Netgear MR1100) using WPA2-PSK, I get periodic disconnects/reconnects.

Difference between apt and software center
cn flag

What is the difference between installing software using the software center and apt (or apt-get)?

In Ubuntu I added a software source to install the last version of Krita and I could get it only by using apt. In the software center I still see an old version.

So, why am I not getting the same version using apt and software center?

Ubuntu AP not assigning IP address

I am running Ubuntu 20.4 and via the settings GUI I configured it as access point to share the wired connection to other devices (ubuntu computer, android smartphones).

The access point starts, the other devices see the SSID, password is correct, but the access point does not assign them an IP address; client devices wait for an IP address forever...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
