I am running Ubuntu 20.04 (but I have also had this problem with 18.04) on a Dell XPS laptop:

Very often, I seem to be disconnected from my home internet, as if the WiFi has dropped. But there is no problem with my WiFi and if I turn off the connection (on my laptop) and back on, the internet works fine again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I have never had issues with opening pdf files until recently. Then, I wanted to readup on the xcolor package for TeX and entered the following command:

texdoc xcolor

This has always worked, opening the documentation in my preferred pdf viewer, qpdfview. But now, it tries to open it with qpdfview, but qpdfview displays an error:

Ubuntu boot screen flashing after update

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 and, during the power-up, the boot screen starts to look like this(video). And takes a long time to get to the login page. This is my laptop(Dell Inspiron 15 with a nvidia 840m) and I don't use it often but I did a normal sudo apt upgrade before this started happening.

About 2 times I got as "A start job is running for hold until boot process finishes up(time/no limit)", now I ...

Setup Kubuntu for passive cooling due to a failing fan

The laptop in question is an HP laptop with AMD Ryzen 5500U. The fan is no longer working and I cannot take it for repairing before a week or two. So I still want the laptop to work without the fan until I send it for repair. How should I setup the system so that it keeps the temps within safe limits using only passive cooling? How to change the current folder in the current window of nautilus using a terminal command
cn flag

From the terminal, we can open Files (nautilus) in a specific folder providing the pathname at the terminal, e.g.

nautilus /home/user/Documents

would open a new window in the Documents folder. However, this always opens a new natuilus window, whether or not the -w (--new-window) option is specified on the command line.

Question: Is there a possibility to change the directory within a running window ...

No restart and no power off (Ubuntu 20.04)

I'm having a problem which is particularly embarassing. Upon shutting down my laptop (HP 255 G7) or even restarting it, I get a black screen as if the computer was really turned off but the power-on indicator is still lit; the cooling fan keeps working as well. In the end I have to press the power button to really shut it down. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 from Windows on my HP 255 G7 some months ago but th ...

After installing Ubuntu, I can no longer boot into Windows. This issue was detailed here.

I've basically given up on accessing windows on this laptop again.

I would now like to know if there is any way I can check if the files on that windows partition have been wiped unintentionally during the dual boot installation process, or if I can access or restore that partition somehow from within Ubuntu (or any ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
