NUL (^@) at shutdown/restart
de flag

OS:20.10

I installed a Realtek 8821 PCle Wi-Fi driver using DKMS source (rtl8821ce-dkms) and when I shutdown or restart my computer, it showed the following
^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@

Update: it also froze the shutdown.

I switched back to "Do not use the device" then it becomes normal again.
And if I don't use a driver Ubuntu will be frozen when I connect to Wi-Fi.

Why is Ubuntu 21.10 slow on my computer?
cn flag

My PC has a nvme SSD,an Nvidia 1650 super, and 8 GB RAM, so I don't think any Operating System should run slow on my computer unless it's for hardware incompatibility. Is my hardware not fully supported by Ubuntu? or Ubuntu is a little slow? Slow as in when loading applications like file manager, browser etc.

Weird glitch on startup

I am using Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. I installed ubuntu 20.04 but the software support was not there.

After doing sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04d my hardware started working such as wifi and Bluetooth.

But on startup, there is a weird glitch (RGB straight horizontal lines with the screen going black momentarily) on the screen until I enter the password and hit the enter button. Not sure why this is  ...

mysql-server-8.0 error blocking apt installations
gb flag

I tried to update Ubuntu 20.04 after a long while, and it failed due to some MySQL error. I searched the web and the suggested answer was rm mysql directories. I did that, but it still did not solve the problem.

I tried dpkg --remove --force-all mysql-server-8.0, but it says:

Headphones don't show up after rebooting
jp flag

If I restart or fresh start my Ubuntu(20.04), my headphones don't function. Until I reconnect it by manually plugging it out and in, the sound comes from the laptop itself. The sound comes to the headphone only after plugging it in. I have searched the solution for this problem a number of times but to no avail.

So from Lenovo support latest driver Realtek 8852AE for Windows (September update: 1.8.1039.3000) seemed to have fixed this problem. (at least for now)

I am running Ubuntu 20.04 Server ARM64 in VMWare Fusion on macOS and I just ran into the virtual disk size of 20GB, I increased the disk to 40GB in VMWare Fusion but I also have to increase the partition in the guest system itself.

LOW FPS while gaming

I have bought a new device (Lenovo Legion 5 pro) and have, with difficulties, installed Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel 5.14.

I was curious about gaming and installed CS GO. Te FPS I get in the game is very low (100-120FPS) when comparing it to windows, where I get more FPS ( 280-300FPS).

I do not know if this is how it is supposed to be or if it is a real issue.

CS GO is a CPU demanding game. My CPU is Ryzen ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
