When I Google I see answers for moving a Linux install hdd, or how to access the drive from Windows.

New unwanted desktop icons after 20.04 upgrade
in flag

successfully upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04.

Now got loads of folder icons on the desktop, including hidden folders (.bash_logout, .Xauthority, .gnome2, to name but a few). I only need links to 'Documents', 'Pictures' and 'Rubbish Bin'.

How do I remove the other 30-odd without breaking anything?

Cheers

Set gamma correction curve (not only the exponent of a power law)
vn flag

xgamma and kgamma allows one to alter the gamma correction curve by changing the exponent of a power-law expression original image:

power-law expression

Some programs and video cards allows one to alter this curve with more flexibility, by setting many points on it. This and this tests show that a power-law expression may not be good enough for some computers, and that is my case.

External USB-C monitor flickers / blinks randomly
cn flag

I regularly use an external monitor, connected through USB-C/thunderbolt to my laptop. It usually works flawlessly, but every now and then (between a few weeks or a few days), the monitor starts blinking (turns black for 1~2 seconds, and this repeats every 10 to 30 seconds). Technically what is apparently happening is that the monitor losses video signal sync on the Displayport connection through the US ...

I'm trying to follow along the guide for installing Ubuntu with LVM logical volumes with LUKS encryption along the guide, but it has tons of terminal commands which I would like to copypaste from the guide instead of writing all commands manually. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Full_Disk_Encryption_Howto_2019

Ubuntu install is stuck loading
bj flag

I currently own a server with Proxmox installed on it. I wanted to install Ubuntu Desktop on it, and I used BalenaEtcher to write the image. I plugged in my USB and it booted into an Ubuntu splashscreen checking file drives (i think?), and then it forwarded into a Ubuntu loading screen, where it has been sitting for a while. Is this normal and should i wait it out? I've waited for like a good hour an ...

What's the difference between `#include` and `@include` in `/etc/sudoers`

I'm updating to Ubuntu 21.04 and apt wants to swap out my sudoers file with one where #include is replaced by @include. Is the old syntax deprecated? It's not something I seem to be able to google.

Make ASUS Dock to work in Ubuntu
cn flag

I've been presented with ASUS USB3.0_HZ-3A Plus Dock device as a gift recently and I've tried to use it under Ubuntu, but sadly, only USB hub is working with it (no audio or video).

Is it possible to make audio and video working? What steps should I take? I will be glad to provide any relevant details necessary.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
