Dell laptop will not wakeup after suspend
in flag

just done an error-free upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04.3, and found that my Dell 5559 Inspiron still won't wake up after suspend. Screen remains black, and all keyboard/mouse activity is ignored. Only option is to force a manual power down and reboot.

This has been an ongoing problem through several versions of Ubuntu, and I was under the (mistaken?) impression that the issue mostly affected Dell ma ...

Internal cameras not detected
za flag

I recently installed Ubuntu (20.04) on my Surface pro (2017). I had to install this kernel thing to stabilize some stuff that's probably unrelated to the camera issue and followed this guide to even get Ubuntu to recognize my laptop's cameras. I can now access my cameras using qcam and cheese, but the programs I actually want to use my cameras with -Telegram and Skype- can't seem to detect them. I ...

Stop services gracefully on shutdown (increase timer)
cn flag

I have a service with a long stop procedure (up to 3-5 Minutes sometimes)

The service is handling a database and harddrives. Upon shutdown, ubuntu gives the service a few seconds (i think 90) before killing it. This poses risk of corrupted files. Is there a way to increase that shutdown timer?

rEFInd does not show when turning on MacBook Pro
cn flag

Today I reinstalled MacOs on my MacBook Pro and tried to follow these instructions to set up dual booting MacOS and Ubuntu. I followed all of these instructions up to installing rEFInd by dragging the install file into terminal and pressing ENTER.

However, the instructions now say I should just restart my laptop and rEFInd should now appear, but this does not happen and my MacBook just boots normally. ...

missed username during login
ng flag

Tried to install oh-my-zsh in Ubuntu 20.04 - without success. I rolled back all changes and switched to bash shell, but somehow I missed my username from startup.

Previously, I had my username pre-filled, and I needed only type my password. Now I need to type both. Maybe it's not related to shell changes, but I need a way to fix it. How can I change it back.

Active-backup bonding in netplan using cellural modem
th flag

I try to set up active-backup bonding in netplan with a modem (ppp0) as a backup. Ppp0 interface works correctly on its own and was created using network manager in line with the guide on official ubuntu website:

sudo nmcli c add type gsm ifname '*' con-name "GSM" apn "internet'

As far as I understand, to create a bond in netplan, I have two options:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
