Avi

When I got my PC, I succeeded to dual install Ubuntu with my Windows10. I followed these instructions and it worked successfully. Unfortunately, I needed to format my computer. Windows 10 is installed successfully now. I tried to re-follow the same steps as before, but now I stuck at GRUB2 black screen. I even tried to disable the secure boot from the BIOS (UEFI). I also tried to change the SATA to AHCI ...

How to tell which option relates to my temp sensor when using pwmconfig
in flag

I'm looking to control my fan speeds in Ubuntu 20.04 based on the liquid temp that is recorded by the temp sensor on my Asus Strix B550-I ITX motherboard. I can make this work with my fan controller but I'd like to know if it is also possible to achieve this without.

I've installed lm-sensors and fancontrol (which seems to also include pwmconfig). I've also confirmed that my temp sensor is working and re ...

Filtering content of command with grep
kn flag

I am trying to filter out a the output of ssh-keyscan. The goal of this is to filter the output so I can use it in my python code to identify hosts connected to my VPN. Normally I would use grep to filter, one of my greps is filtering properly, but the other is not. The first grep is working to get just the ed25519 ID, but not sure why I am getting the SSH-2.0... lines also. The command I ran along wit ...

Trying to launch an app via shell_exec on php
br flag

I've been scratching my head for days over this problem. I'm fairly decent with Linux, but certainly no pro with it.

Goal: Launch soulseek-cli app via shell_exec (www-data user)

The problem isn't getting the PHP side of things working, but it is getting soulseek to launch using the www-data user (or any other user other than techno)

I installed using npm as per the following instructions

How to increase the maximal thumbnail size in Ubuntu 20+ nautilus file manager?
ru flag

The maximum available thumbnail size (~165px) in Ubuntu 20.04 is too small for my liking and I would like to increase it above this limit: thumbnails in nautilus I have tried nautilus, nemo and thunar and in all of them the max thumbnail size is similar and I can't find a way of increasing it.

And no, gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.icon-view thumbnail-size <npx> does not work anymore - there is just no such variable. ...

Ubuntu filesystem becomes corrupt after reboot (cron)

OS: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

Basically I set my root cron to reboot every week. At first this was the line I used:

0 1 * * 0 /sbin/shutdown -r now

As the weeks went by I began to notice small but annoying issues after every reboot. So I decided to switch it up about two weeks ago. I instead made it run a script with just reboot in it.

0 1 * * 0 /home/user/reboot.bash

I've been noticing less issues based o ...

After upgrading Ubuntu from 18.04 to 20.04, `systemctl suspend` no longer works
cn flag
mjz

I have Ubuntu 20.04 installed on a desktop Dell machine. I access it through XRDP and SSH for routine use.

It has been hugely convenient with Ubuntu 18.04 to suspend the system using the systemctl suspend command and then resume the next day using a magic packet wake-on-LAN. A few seconds and I am back where I left off.

After the upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04, systemctl suspend would no longer function proper ...

Mic not recognized and Dummy output in ubuntu 20.04. ThinkPad X1C 7th Gen
vn flag

After doing some maintenance on my laptop, the built-in speakers and mic stopped working in ubuntu, giving me "dummy output" as the sound output. The same happens in a Live USB session of ubuntu 20.04. In windows it works fine, so i think it isnt a hardware problem. I solved the audio issue with the second solution of this tutorial. But i cant find a similar solution for my mic problem.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
