Network stopped working after KVM installation on 21.10
ro flag

I just installed Android Studio, and it recommended that I install KVM.

So I did, using plain apt install .... And now my network doesn't work anymore.

It seems the network manager isn't running, but I don't know why or how to fix it.

I guess the network manager not running is why I don't have any network devises.

Ubuntu 20.04 desktop not rendering windows UIs properly
cn flag

I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 desktop on my machine and am noticing issues with the windows manager GUI not properly rendering. E.g., see these screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/QNy3VxF.

You can see all the icons and menu items are mostly blank. I have to hover the UI to get the icons to show up. As soon as the mouse leaves, it goes back to blank.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot?

Thanks!

I currently got Ubuntu Desktop up and working on my laptop with Wifi networking enabled. What I really intend to do is run a minimal Ubuntu Server 20.04 within a KVM container and assign all hardware networks to it. This is partly working - the WIFI shutdown on my main system as soon as I start the VM, the wifi network card is detected within the VM, however, the Ubuntu Server does not setup the drivers ...

Ubuntu 21.10 installer thinks my boot partition is corrupted
sr flag

Ubuntu 21.10 installation getting stuck at the screen where it asks for third party software and updates to be downloaded. It hangs forever. I am trying to install it alongside Windows 10.

After a few tries, I decided to open Gparted, and I saw red Xs on the boot partition (fat) and the little partition next to it (16 Mib).

This system boots without issue into Windows, and, until I deleted them, int ...

How can I make automatic, full system backups of Ubuntu during normal use (like Macrium Reflect for Windows)
in flag

I want to be able to make backups of my Ubuntu install automatically, during normal use. It's important that this is an automatic process because I'm not going to remember to regularly boot into another environment to make a backup. This rules out most of the things I see suggested, like using dd, or CloneZilla, or gnome-disks.

I'm currently using the Déjà Dup Backup utility that comes with Ubuntu 2 ...

youtube-dl appears dead - what can I use to download videos?
us flag

Judging by the huge number of unresolved issues plus zero activity or communication from the project maintainers, the youtube-dl project appears to be dead and many of the project's contributors have moved on.

When I use the latest version youtube-dl, I only get a 75 KB/sec download rate, which can take many hours to download a video, and it doesn't support a site that I recently started using.

Unable to open port 443, despite apache listening, ufw open locally on machine
lv flag

Hello fellow ubuntu lovers. I've been trying to open port 443 on my server (on a private network) for some time, but I'm stuck. It's open on ufw, and apache is listening to that port, but somehow I cannot access that port from a different machine on the same private network (both are on the same router)

Here I listed the output from the usual port troubleshooting commands. Would highly appreciate ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
