I use netatalk to communicate via afp between an Ubuntu server 20.04 and Macbooks. In Finder on the Macs a WD nas, a Mac Mini server and other MacBooks (all using AFP) appear from the start as icons you can click on and access. To have the ubuntu server appear Mac users have to every time press Cmd+K in Finder and then enter afp://192.168.1.2 in a popup dialog window. Is there a way to configure afp on  ...

How do I reveal hidden/obscured text in VMware Horizon Client?
cn flag

Description

When I open certain menus in VMware Horizon, the text is hidden. It seems to me as if the text is falling into the white background due to my system using the Breeze Dark theme rather than light.

Horizon in Breeze (Light) Theme:

horizon in Breeze theme

horizon preferences menu in Breeze theme

Horizon in Breeze Dark theme:

horizon in Breeze Dark theme

horizon preferences menu in Breeze Dark theme

One way to fix this may be to force Horizon to use light mode, but I am unsure how to do this.

Nvidia gpu getting hot in Ubuntu 20.04

I'm new to the Ubuntu world, and even though I love the vibe, I cannot use it professionally (I'm web Dev). I have set up a dual boot with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04. Turns out that when nothing is open, the sensors on the GPU show up to 45-48°C. When Chrome is open, the temperature goes above 60°C. If I want to open VS Code, it heats up to over 80°C when I put it on a cooling pad. My laptop is a L ...

screensaver not working Mate 21.04
be flag

Recently loaded Ubuntu Mate 21.04 on my new FrameWork laptop. Set up screensaver to use pictures I loaded into the correct file. Seemed to be working and then.... not. At the appointed time (depending on screensaver/power management settings) the screen dims to black. No screensaver choice loads so it's probably not a problem with my picture folder.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
